20051008 - 1630hrs What was I doing? WORK!!! Got an sms from kokliang, "Tonight on or not?" Before I could reply, the phone rang. "Hello?" "Ooi, tonight how?" "Still working leh... tired" "Ok lor..." Later on, hands were still so itchy but I went to another spot to fish and NOT with kokliang. I was lazy to get off Singapore to fish and chose to fish in Changi instead... Later on in the night, I lost another Maria XJ to snags... second one in a week. I was with a great bunch of guys from FK and Alex landed a cute little flathead spinning live prawn. Later on today, kokliang sent me his catch reports... I WANT TO KICK MYSELF IN MY BUTT!!! I must not be lazy again!!! I must not be lazy again!!! I must not be lazy again!!! I must not be lazy again!!! I must not be lazy again!!! I must not be lazy again!!! Sorry about the kpkb'ing... This is kokliang's report... Maybe I want to shoot myself too... ;D

Huh? what is Maria XJ? I tot you went and try out your new reel? Maria XJ is a lure. Remember that I told you that the reel is for a student? Now he has it and he would be getting his backing and line soon and we would have another flyfisherman borned for good. He is the kid who started tying flies before even have a fly rod... WEI ;D

Hi Alberto, If I am not wrong, these fishes are still swimming around in enclosed area for breeding purposes. I am not the one who caught them as mentioned eariler, I was fishing with another group of kakis on land. Maybe the photo could not tell the size of the smaller ones accurately. They are est. both more than 20cm long and to some, perfect size for the pan. I definitely agree with you regarding catch and release starts with us. It is not going materialize easily but we have to keep the ball rolling and at least we are doing it. It is a dream or a passion for many here and hopefully, we will induce a new generation of anglers with a different mindset. We love our water. Yes, we do. It is no use if we have clean water with no fish, right? We have river watchers in Singapore, bird watchers... how about fish watchers (anglers with preservation agenda)? I just went to Bedok Resvr for a look. Look only, no fishing hor. kekeke. Water is really clean and clear but see no fish... Last year... I saw lots of them... today... not one. New generation of anglers with preservation agenda. Keep the ball rolling...

Hi Ed, I hope I did not start a misunderstanding here. I aware that you did not catch the fishes. Actually, what I meant was that should we come across such situation, we could advice our friends to release the smaller one while the larger one can be kept for a meal. There is nothing wrong in someone keep some of their catch to eat. On occasions when I fish with some of my friends around changi on a boat, I get berated and teased for releasing small fishes All I can do is to tell them nicely why I do it ... most of them choose to not want to understand the principle of catch and release which is also why I dun fish with them that much now. So Ed, I'm sorry if I offended you and I did not want to sound high and mighty regards Alberto

Hi Alberto, Wait wait wait... there's NO misunderstanding at all. I think the cyberworld still isn't a perfect space for interaction and especially my ENGLAND only half past six. kekeke I share your thoughts too about releasing those smallies and you know what, I think my words ain't too well structured and organised... when I read over them again, I think I am cooking something in the pot... Many times I got mocked at when I released fish back too. It doesn't bother me much these days as I have my own free will to keep or not keep the catch. Simply because those who mocked me do not understand us who C&R but the trend is catching fire and growing fast in Asia lately. I guess our effort are not wasted as I can see more and more kids C&R too. Perhaps, we should all meet up more often and chit chat over some tea and coffee instead of interacting too much through the cyberworld and we should go fishing together too. Misunderstanding in the brew - cyberworld. Sorry to have made you feel this way and it is my fault too. Sorry about it. Pardon me. Let's meet up soon and let our white canes do the talking. kekeke

You are needed to go fish with them and convince them to release their catches lah. ;D I agree with you that we have to do it nicely. High pressure selling will retard the impact of the C&R message we are trying to publicise. We need "moderation" in all these things. Push too hard and the C&K guy will avoid you like a you have SARS. (Plague too old fashion liow ;D) I am all for C&R. But occasionally I do bring back a fish or two for the dinner table. (The last occasion was I think some 4 years ago ) And I don't know why my kids said the fish I caught taste better. Sometimes, we need to realise that besides providing us with so much fun as a sport fishing target, fishes also fill our stomach and provided us to the norishment we all need to live and grow up. So guys, that is how important a fish is to me. And it made me very protective over them. I had also experienced what Ed went through. My brother and his friends said I "seow" and "ting-tong". Where got people fish, take picture and release the fish. Asked me go Buangkok for checkup and offered to bring me their because they knew the doctors there. C&R...... we need to do it nicely. (Agreed with alberto) We also need to give the "sinners" enough time for the message to sink in. ;D
