LeoRod Tamed a Runaway Train - KaluiThis morning went to the president's residence with LeoRod coupled with Abel Super 4 that is lined with sinking line. After hooking 4 PBs, the last took my fly hide behind a stone and ground and broke my tippet. I tied on a bugtail streamer of greenish grey colour and moved to the cape and casted outward targeting for more PB. There were 2 black Kaluis swimming around. I casted to one of them landing the fly 2 feet in front of its head and let the fly, leader and line sank. I didn't expect the Kalui to take the fly because when I was targeting them with hopper flies of various dressing patterns in the past, they just shy way. Much to my surprise it did. Upon my first strip, I felt heavy at the end of the line and immediately raised the rod tip. It reacted by instantly pulling away forcefully and I knew I had been rewarded with a bonus. I quickly let out the loose fly lines and connected the Kalui directly onto the reel. At first it peeled off line from the reel against the low drag setting pretty fast. I increased the drag setting one notch at a time but it still ran like a runaway train. I increased the drag setting further and it stopped before the backing showed up. All the while I kept the rod at low angle fighting the Kalui with the butt of the rod and the drag of the reel. Was I glad I was using Abel Super 4! Had I used my Peerles, like I have been doing most of the time, the Kalui would have stripped the reel as it is clicker and paw design and there is no way to palm the rim. After good fifteen minites' tug of war, I landed the prized catch. Quickly took the following photos and released it back into the water.

LeoRod continues its bash with SebbieYesterday I was alone at the river. Valve technician overslept and water has stop flowing. After lifting out several earth movers, (there were still 20-30 of them in water all eager to grab my fly) I went deeper water and latched onto a big fat sebbie. Its first dash almost caused a birdnest on my reel as I only put a light drag on it. As I didn't bring my camera, I took out my handphone and took a quick snap of it.
