I must apologies to Arthur for the serious torture I have put him through in the last few weeks!! The LOTR rods are on their way and I can hardly wait to hear his evaluation of the rods. The Elven wand has a patent applied for Reel seat. The "Hatton swiveling hood" will hold any reel foot made over the last 2 hundred years. And very firmly at that. The elven wand is somewhere between my standard mortised grade and my Full blown presentation grade named the "Phillipe" grade. This was a labor of love and is in my opinion one of the finest pieces of usable art I have ever made. The separation anxiety lasted for almost a month and that made it hard for me to send my kids out into the world. And I must apologies to Arthur for this also. Humbly your semi caved in gnome Jeff

Dear Jeff, No apologies... it is just a wonderful experience sharing the rodcrafting process with you. Given the chance, I would wait another few more years again quite happily The 'Phillipe' grade is probably way out of my league but I do have a grade made up especially for the two elven rods ... AHA got you! That little teaser will be part of my write-up! Running out of superlatives to use for my Hatton write up... Elated CY

After reading this thread for days and constantly emptying my drool bucket, I finally have the honor to admire, caress and whip the two beauties this morning with Chee Yung. ;D ;D ;D ;D Fellow boohemians --- beat you guys on this one, eh. Hehehehehe We were supposed to meet up and test out the two beauties in our ever farorite NZ this am. Unfortunately, just as we were to assemble at our "parking lots", it started to rain. So we decided to have breakfast at Ah Ho's place first. Chee Yung brought in the two beauties to the table where Adi and I were seated. After our breakfast and the table was cleared, Chee Yung first brought out the Drow and all eyes around us were wide open eventhought they were not fishermen! As it was withdrawn from the as beautiful wooden case, my jaw dropped . If I was not seated by the table, my jaw would have been on the floor! It was a true beauty beyond words! Even the slide ring has intricate carving of a trout!!! . Then out came the Elven, just as beautiful, if not more. After all the ooh aah and eye-pooping admirations, we headed to nearby LP ground for a test drive. I first tried out the Elven with a ghost fly tied to the end. It featured a tight loop with a 5WT line and effortlessly cleared 70 ft. After several casts, I saw a fish followed the fly in and I thought it would be great to christen the Elven but it turned away as the fly drawn closer to shore. Chee Yung was casting the Drow that time. Then we swap rods. The Drow cast even more effortlessly and it cleard 60 ft easily dispite of its shorter length. As I was standing just below and next to the jetty,I was tring to cast to the pillar where the fish was last seen in order to entice a strike. I was probably too greedy trying to land the fly too close to the pillar that it caught the steel casement encasing the pipes on the jetty and got stuck there. Chee Yung shouted, "Hey Uncle you got a Steelhead!" ;D ;D ;D I replied, "Yah, a very big one that take the line to the backing!" as I walked backward so that I can go around in order to go onto the jetty to loosen the fly. As Chee Yung has to leave early, we cut short our first outing without christening the rod. Well, leave it to next outing then!
