Hi folks,
I got an email from Canbarra CC office to meet up with Dr Lim. Unforunately the meeting was for last week and I must have missed opening my mail earlier.
Anyway, I have ask for another date to meet up with him. The agenda is for us to set the Flyfishing Club in the new CC.
I would like to have some members to come along for the session with Dr Lim and I would appreciate your input very much on this new hope.
Cheers Qwek

hmm.. interesting, was the agenda for the meeting written in the letter? this time, before putting up proposals/plans during the meeting, we should first hear why Dr Lim or Sembawang GRC wants to have a flyfishing club formed?.. Is any thoughts put in by our 'garment' since the last meeting with respect to this sport? Afterall, is there any reservoirs open (legally) for flyfishing. below are 2 interesting thread from Fk.. seems like more anglers are feeling like fugitives fishing in their own country. www.fishingkaki.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=113855www.fishingkaki.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=113616billy, your dream of fishing anywhere when Marina Dam is in place may not happen liao.. Singapore River also cannot fish. However i agree your second point to "need the NPark and PUB to tell their rangers that Fly fishing is legal." ;D 1) There are many things that we can bring forward for discussion. I feel that we should not push forward the demand for a body of water for the sole purpose of flyfishing or competition. Agreed we do not push too hard. When the Marina Dam is in place, we can go anywhere left right centre and we can fly fish safely. Only need the NPark and PUB to tell their rangers that Fly fishing is legal.yeah.. i m cynical today..

Just say When Master Qwek!
Should we pass a copy of our constitution to Dr Lim? Just to make sure that he's comfortable with what we want to achieve.

Hi folks, Thanks for the supports! The meeting is set for Sept24 @ 7pm at the Jetulong CC, 2 Sembawang Crescent. Hi TY, that a great idea. Can you email a copy to me to pass to his secretary and I will also print additional copies for those attending the meeting. Gilbert, thanks for the links to FK. We have come this far and finally got one foot in the doorway and I don't think we want to go around knocking at doors. The following should sum up what we want to achieve: 1) To form a body or club under the CDC or on it own. 2) Using the club to introduce and promote Flyfishing and all its relate activities. 3) Using the club as a platform to launch and promote the White Papers. 4) To promote safety in fishing and relate water activities. 5) Use the CLub and flyfishing and it relate activities to keep kids and teens off the street. All of the aboveThere are many things that we can bring forward for discussion. I feel that we should not push forward the demand for a body of water for the sole purpose of flyfishing or competition. Agreed we do not push too hard. When the Marina Dam is in place, we can go anywhere left right centre and we can fly fish safely. Only need the NPark and PUB to tell their rangers that Fly fishing is legal. We should get the club formed and reach out to the community (thru CDC or other) to promote flyfishing. Form the club under CDC or some RC, CCC godfather first. Then promote flyfishinf from there. After that it is up to us to see that the club and fly fishing succeed. I think we will. We just need to be given a chance.I think we should discard the unnecessary baggage: Sport. Do we want to be know as an another sport club promoting sport fishing. Agreed too QOr do we want to be recognised as a community caring for the environment and providing social cohesion for the community. This is secondary and it will follow when we lead by example. If each of us can adopt a teen and bring them fishing and teach them how to tie a fly and teach them to keep the place clean and teach them to keep the water clean, the bonding will follow naturally. Look at the fishios at LPR. The social cohesion and the sharing(of free flies started by Uncle Wong) was passed on and on and on. There was a time when everyone knew everyone there. That is what we need when the club is formed. An inclusive club. Not an exclusive club.We can use the CDC and the PA network to promote flyfishing since fishing is not recognised as a sport in Singapore, how do we play a role in promoting this activity? There are many sporting activities conducted in many RC. CCC and Adventure Clubs. Many of them are not competitive, and are enjoyed by many, youngs and olds from all walks of life. Fishing and Flyfishing can also be enjoyed by young and old, as we all do. Use flyfishing as an extension of recreation fishing in general to promote it art and form. There are many activities associated with flyfishing that the general public are not aware of. There are so many thing. And after the club is formed, the new members and newbies will have plenty of feedbacks that we can tap to make the club better. We all have the commitment. Most have the time. We will succeed. When the papers were forwarded to Nature Society, SEC and Waterway Watch, they are surprise to find that there are indeed a core group caring fishermen and ladies who want to help protect the environment. All of them highlighted that is a serious lack of public education to promote safety and environment concern in the fishing arena. This is where we step in to promote the White Papers. AgreedPlease add to the above and do not pull back any punches (No punching but can let the dog go after you...kekeke)Here another point that TY had mentioned previously that we need to recognize is that we need to identify the area where the agenda overlaps between the fly fishers and the CCC/GRC. Only then will the GRC works towards helping us achieve our goals. We need to be realistic that no one else would be interested to forward our objectives beside ourselves unless there is an overlap of interest. AT the meeting I would also like to table what TY have also suggested: A proposal for a designated area to showcase a pilot project in fly fishery. ALL FOR ONE AND ONE FOR ALL!Just one more step... and we are home. Just Qwek

Hi folks,
Dr Lim informed with regrets that he is unable to meet us on Monday and he apologise for the postponement as he has some matters to attend to. Sorry for the incovenience caused.
I will check with his secretary for the next available date. I like to suggest a sunday brunch just after our morning sessions. That way we don't have to just from work on a weekday. Nasi lemaks and otaks?
Any suggestion.
Cheers Qwek

Hi folks, The meet has been arranged for Oct 9 @700pm. The location is Jetutong CC, 2 Sembawang Crescent. Please let me know your attendance. Tks Cheers Qwek Love to join you guys but commited to prior appointment. Just to keep you guys abreast; I have heard from the grapevine that PUB is now 'seriously' looking into revamping the existing regulations and fishing restrictions. Quite likely SFAS will be the first to be kept in the loop AFAIK. Any changes, for good or bad I don't know, but I am fairly certain this is the result of a reactive action made possible by the heated discussion from our fellow anglers from this and FK forum. I hope this will change our sportfishing regulations in Singapore and be more inline with other first world nations. From anecdotal experiences, it is to everyone interest if PUB seeks advice from more than one party. All the best Master Qwek....

We need to provide the MP with as many valid arguments as possible so that he can go in front of the Ministers and argue the case for fly fishing in the reservoirs. Mean time, we have to start the club running and show the results to the many eyes who will be watching us and the club. If we screw up for one reason or another, fly fishing will be screwed up too. So lets all give it the best shot......the only shot we've got.
