Look like some else is in the news for all the wrong reason: www.straitstimes.com/ST+Forum/Online+Story/STIStory_369908.htmlQuotes: Sport fishing association shouldn't allow smokingRECENTLY, I signed up for a fishing competition organised by the Sport Fishing Association of Singapore (SFAS). I went to one of its outlets near Arab Street and little did I expect that such an association would allow smoking on its premises. I saw youngsters - members of SFAS and participating in the competition - smoking. I would have thought that SFAS, being a national sporting body, would strongly discourage unhealthy habits by its members and in its activities. These youngsters were smoking not only on the premises but also at the competition venue on Pulau Semakau. I was also shocked to see that many of the participants did not adopt safety practices; many were seen wearing flip flops on the slippery rocky slope while fishing. The SFAS officials appeared more concerned with robust participation. There were also breaches to the rules outlined on its website about handling fish with care. Any fisherman knows that prolonged handling of fish out of the water will eventually kill it. Subjecting a fish to longer exposure out of the water just to take photographs at various angles (when only three specific shots are required, according to the competition rules) is not helping at all. SFAS should also encourage its members to handle fish properly. Some of the fish caught were suspended improperly, which can injure the fish further. Delong Sim unquotes

Latest comments Delong Sim, You have a very funny name, not sure you boy or girl. For once I taught its Lelong Posted by: creationist555 at Wed Apr 29 20:29:22 SGT 2009 Maybe Mr Sim would like to do a Aware on the SFAS at the next EOGM ?? Posted by: 0517elias at Wed Apr 29 15:36:04 SGT 2009 Yet another busy body poking their nose in where it's not needed. Leave smokers in peace for goodness sake. There is not one iota of evidence that passive smoking causes harm, yet this has become a commonly held belief. Smokers are harassed everywhere they go nowadays by do-gooders and the self-proclaimed people's police. Live and let live, even if these people by their own free will choose to live a little less long. Posted by: FelixDeVille at Wed Apr 29 13:05:06 SGT 2009 Killing fish for sports is allowed and even has a national association promoting it. Then how come killing cats for sport (like wat one guy did not so long ago) is not allowed? d**n strange leh? Because the cat killer didn't take pictures of his kill from 3 angles? Because he didn't register a national association? Not llikely that its because he didn't smoke when engaging in his hobby, though? Poor guy even got a long jail sentence, i think. Posted by: silaterangy at Wed Apr 29 11:31:48 SGT 2009 Mr Sim, The place at Arab street is a commercial establishment. It is not a premise of SFAS. If the business operator allows his customers to smoke, so be it unless the law says otherwise. Besides your concern on members of SFAS smoking, are you concern about members of the SAF smoking too? Are yellow boxes in military bases a lack of effort in discouraging unhealthy habits among SAF personels? SAF may not be a sporting national body but it is definitely 'national' and good health is top priority. I am not a smoker and I will not encourage anyone to smoke. To smoke or not is a personal decision. It is not morally wrong or illegal, so there is no need for SFAS to insist that participants not to smoke. Posted by: xppsti42 at Wed Apr 29 10:23:46 SGT 2009
