Hi all, For those familiar with my fly tying exploits, you would know that I tie weird looking (I'm being kind to myself) things that sink. I love to dredge and this latest addition to my arsenal is no different. The area near my place holds kahawi and a good population of Mulloway and yellowtail kings. Not to mention the resident groupers and sea pikes. I've come up with this new concoction to fish the deeper ledges when the kings/Jews/ tailors are feeding on white bait and smaller "ëyes" type bait fish. A deceiver / polar fiber minow would do the trick but they are just too large and take too long to get to where I want them too be. Little surf candies also took too long to go down deep. So I came up with the "blob" colored to mimic the local bait as well as being small enough, it is cast really easily with a 10 wt full sinking line and all i do is a short "jerk- stop "type of retrieve and more often than not, i'll be in business! I've taken some comparative shots with the fat boy as well as it free standing on the vise. I hope that this contribution will be of use to You who want to target fish of ledges and the buggers just won't bite because the files are too big. Color doesn't really matter from what I've experienced. PS: the "fat boy"is a really nice all rounder fly when on rock ledges and you don't have to drift too deep. tight lines!
