Hi guys I was just wanting to know if it would be possable/a good idea to use braid for the backing on a reel. I have found a reel that I want to buy but it only comes in a large arbor and when I return home, I want to chase the local GTs and queenies. A 30lb barid would pack much tighter than dacron and therefore give me a bit more insurance with the bigger fish. Is this a good idea or are there certain drawbacks? Thanks guys for your response.

hi Jamky, Take a look at the new backing that Coho has in the shop, it thinner and stronger than the previous lot. Here a comparison done by the folks at midcurrent regarding backing line: www.midcurrent.com/articles/gear/cutchin_gelspun.aspxHope this helps. Cheers Qwek

Thanks for the advice, the link was helpful. I think that some fireline will give me a bit more backing potential. All you guys are great
