Nice carp! Hi Uncle Wong, care to share what flies do you normally use to target this picky eater? Sometimes they seem to like everything, sometimes, they just cant be bothered... I have not landed one on fly before but a good 18.5lbs on the boga got his back connected to the hooks of my lure. It took me about 25mins before it surrendered to my 8lbs mono on a baitcast outfit. It measured from my feet to up above my waist. It was caught from a suburban lake in Arizona during my stay there. I wish I could go back there again... carps are infesting the waterways there!

Very nice catch uncle wong... Carp are notoriously difficult to catch on fly... You can see them, you can place your fly at their noses... But they might not even take it. And even if they do... It's absolutely difficult to tell the take... Very very well done! I salute you! Regards Nick

Wow! 18.5 Lb carp Hooked it on the back somemore. Must have felt like towing by a locomotive! I got it on dragonfly nymph. Dragonfly nymph... hmmm... I think I need to work on my vice to whip something up like that too... Sometimes, I just feel like a handicap... I need more fly tying materials... indeed, literally I am a handicap with that cast around my ankle... Thks Uncle Wong! Catch a few more to make us drool somemore. The 18.5lbs carp indeed is a runaway train. I was fighting it in a lobang between 2 standalone houses and properly about 3.5m wide between two fences. The water hole is like the alphabet "J" and I was fishing right at the bottom of the hook at the tip! The fish took line and hit the otherside of the bank where the bend is in less than 10sec. From the tip to the bend, it is a distance of about 70m! My baitcaster was a quarter spooled. My heart was pumping faster each second as if this train was going to make a left turn, I would be fried! On the left bank of the bent, there's a little waterplatform with a very nice 10 men watercraft. The platform is supported by wooden poles sticking into the bed of the fish hole! It is a cut off point for my 8lbs mono!!! Indeed, the fish made a run to the far horizon towards the left plane. I lifted up my rod to judge where the fish was in the water and I could see my line was heading into "cut-off-point". My heart sank while looking at the line inched closer and closer to the watercraft in each passing second. I quickly put my rod tip into the water and try my best to stop the fellow by thumbing the spool and suddenly the line went limp. Argh.... I thought I must have lost it for good at the "cut-off-point". I started bringing the slack and I realised something strange, I was getting almost all my line back! In my mind, a thousand scenarios flashed and I chose to believe that the fish must had made a U-turn and I strongly was not believeing the hook came off. Good grace! The fish was still there at the end of the line! Guess what, the carp made a few more similar runs this time but at a slower pace and I was able to keep the line tight all the time. After a good 25mins on my stop watch, I finally beached it. My t-shirt was wet from the fight in the intense heat of the summer, 45 degrees celius. I got the biggest fish I ever had in USA and also in my life from shore. Almost broke the record last month in salt but the fish got off the hook after its first musical run on my SS700. I'll be back, soon..... ;D ;D ;D
