haha ya. seriously though, u should pick up fly tying. its great! it can be more challenging to tie a fly which induces strikes than to try casting for fish! haha

Just put a downpayment for the vise yesterday , waiting for some funds from other gears I'm selling off, already overspend on the fly rod. It should be very rewarding to see the fish falling for the fly you tied yourself. For me nothing beats having a hit by the fish, fighting the fish, feeling the vibrations thru the fishing rod..

Hi Folks, have been busy lately and not really fishing, no time even to write a CR last weekend. I got my vise a while back and just played around with it, tried to remember what Henry taught on tying. I tied a few different colors and types of material combination. Came back from overseas project on 5thAug and headed down that evening and met Alberto, tried a breadfly for a while but only small Mayans. Took out a fly I tied, think it is call a “surf candy”, landed a small one on the 2nd cast.. Alberto came over and told me to try nymphing, taught me how to do “figure of 8 retrieving”. Caught a couple of small ones but didn’t bother to take photos as I was enjoying the “retrieving”. So yesterday morning, the 12thAug, went to LSR to practice casting plus fishing, decided to try what I tied a few days back to see if they work. First fly I tried was some sort of ‘popper’, saw what some of you guys tied and wanted to try a ‘micro’ version of it, got a small Pb.. Next I tried a “Charlie” and soon spotted the only Pb sighted that day, casted to it's front and immediately it went for the fly, missed the fly, tried again and missed again as I was striking a little too early, got it on the 3rd cast.

This evening went to my usual training ground to practice casting after borrowing a library book "Master the Cast”. As advice from Jeremy, cast the fly along the edge of the bridge and immediately it got stuck to something, thought I hit the support beam so I just pull back, felt something release the fly, so I tried again, on the fourth or fifth cast something took it and the SCL started to bend as the fish went further under the bridge, got worried that my rod might break if pull under the bridge, so I did 2 gentle strikes and let the fish run. Soon it came out from under the bridge and did an aerial jump, wah!! Arowana! It swam all over the place jumping and jumping, I just held on as there wasn’t much fight really, slowly reel in the coils of flyline at my feet and directed the Aro towards me.. Took a couple of quick pics on my handphone and release it quickly. I guess it was real tired so I just stayed there and waited until it swam off.. Sorry for the bad photos as I didn't bring my camera, only had my HP. Really happy as all the fishes were caught on flies tied myself, even though the tying proportions were kinda off.. I got to work on my casting, still bad..

Hi James, Well done, nice catches ;D
One thing though, avoid hooking the files onto the cork handles, does not do the cork grip any good to be filled with holes.
regards Alberto

Hi Alberto, i wouldn't dare to punch holes into the cork grip, what you don't see is my finger pressing the leader against the grip.. Hey Roastroys, thanks for the invite, cannot fish tomoro, got to work. On a tight deadline.. Only can manage a few hours on Sat mornings and sometimes "sneaking" out of my in-laws' place on Sunday evenings.. ;D
