Here's a short write up on our trip to Bob's place last weekend..
We left around 9 plus after a short dinner along beach road hoping that most of the crowd would have gone across on Thursday or Wednesday seeing that Thursday was Vesak day.. Alas we met with a horrible jam at woodlands and only crossed the causeway around 11pm. By the time we reached Bob's place it was just past midnight. After we helped set up out safari beds and mosquito nets many of us started to unpack our tackle in anticipation of an early start the next morning.
The next morning i was awakened by hearing Albert mention that he better get his camera to take a picture of his Sebarau caught on bread if not nobody would believe him. That sentence was enough to wake most of us up and we started streaming down to the waters edge fly lines flying through the air full of anticipation.
Mah was the first to hook up with a fish but alas it threw the hook when it entered some weed beds in front of the bank..
I managed a sebarau that morning caught on my version of a black wolly bugger. Black marabou tail, black cactus chenile for the body and a bead chain at the head.
After breakfast i tried out the boat and after combing the whole pond only managed another sebarau from a similar location as the first on the same fly.
These turned out to be the only 2 sebarau caught on fly the whole trip..
A few attempts at getting the parents of a baby toman school only resulted in these..
I also checked out a small stream that fed water into the pond and with a size 24 pheasent tail nymph that i tied specifically for this place caught a few t barbs and another fish that im not quite sure the name off..
With the fly fishing slow, most of us switched to baiting for the pacus. I only managed 1 pacu hit on a fly and was connected for about 2 secs before it bit through my 20lb leader. The baiting was proving much more effective and after switching to wire leaders albert landed the first of quite a few pacus. We used both sweet potato leaves and fish meat. Both proved quite deadly as you can see..
I managed my first pacu ever shortly after..
That night both Jimmy, his wife Pat and Henry joined us for the next morning of fishing.
Henry managed a few pacus on lures in the early morning but most of us stuck with going after the pacus of pole fishing.
Pat fighting a Pacu..
While Jimmy was enjoying himself pole fishing..
Qwek took up pole fishing too
I tried my hand too and was rewarded with some of these beautiful fish. They seem to be the adult version of the small fish i caught in the stream
Switching back to spinning resulted in my second pacu of the trip
And Qwek got his Pacu too
here are a few pictures of the pond and the accommodation..
And of course the most important part of the trip, the people.. Pity i don't have a good picture of the last full group shot, does someone else have it?
Regards,
Matthew
