All of us have seen good come out of disaster . . . the blessing in disguise. When you expect good to come from negativity, it will. What you think about, you bring about. - Joyce Duco
News of the floods in Malaysia hit us hard as we arrived at Lavender Bus Terminal for our journey to Terengganu last Thursday. We had planned for a long time to on Mok San's houseboat and his cooking. For weeks we had been following the news of the flooding up north, and had hope that it will subsided in time for our trip. That was not the case, as we reached the bus terminal only to be informed that the buses are not leaving for the East Coast.
As the news sank in, we too thought of the families forced out of their homes in the flooded areas and of those who lost their lives.
Henry who came to see us off, joined us for coffee and supper as we think of plan B. Several locations and ideas were thrown up for discussion, and after a few phone calls we decided to try Dave's pond in Setaiwan. We learned from Henry that the Rod and Line magazine team and the Shimano group are also up there for the weekend. So we arranged with Dave for days after these group leave knowing that the fishes may be lock-jawed after their sessions.
Henry and Mah arranged for the trips, we were to meet up with Dave in Setaiwan on Monday morning. That gave us a couple of days to tie some saltwater flies and to get our saltwater gears prepared for the coming trip.
We meet up at Boon Lay Shopping Centre on Sunday night for the departure. There we meet up with another Lure caster, Stephen. In our group, we have Mah, Gan, Huns, Liew, myself all flychuckers. David, DOM Goh, Anthony, Eng Joo will be casting lures. According to Dave, this is the first Flyfishing group to visit Setaiwan pond.
After a slight delay, we left Singapore at around 11pm for Perak. The journey was long and very cold, luckily they provided blankets. We reached Fajar around 7am to find Dave waiting for us to drive us to the hotel.
After leaving our bags and gears in Dave rooms we headed for a hearty Setaiwan style breakfast.
We returned to the hotel, to gear up for the fishing ahead. Taking only essential stuffs, we headed for the ponds. After a ten minutes drive theu the back roads and a series of prawn ponds we arrived at the ponds to see cobias cruising lazily around the edges.
Most of us were rubbing our hands in glee for the action ahead. Dave briefed us on the fishing and water terrain condition. We set up our gears and started chucking flies and lures.
Here are some of the pictures taken, more pictures will be posted later.
Stay tune as more pictures will be posted later...
Cheers
