Oh well... CR:26th April 05 Same place,First cast, and fish on... Due to some unkonwn reason, MrBarra manage to throw hook, and i am left with aimless luring for the next 2 hours... I suspect that if i had a shock leader attached to my fireline, the fish would have stayed on.. Below is a pic of ALL my equipment for a date with Mr Barra Qwek: ISO fishing?? Care to elaborate??

27 April Rushed down for a date with MrBarra (AGAIN!) Used a floating diver as it has produced the most strikes so far.. Upon the 5th or 6th cast, there was the "pop" sound from strike at the water surface right below my feet.. Ah.. bobo MrBarra must have forgotten his glasses... The next cast enticed another strike, but no hook up... Seems like its a smaller barra today.. So I changed to a small minnow, and casted again.. I have realised that Barra's are a lazy bunch, and that the retrieve have to be almost dead slow for them to strike.. So far, 3/4 of the strikes i had were during the PAUSE of the retrieve.. A few cast later, there's the "thud thud thud" feel of a fish at the end of my line.. Since i had a hard time trying to hook up properly, i paused a bit more, and gave it a little twitch.. Then BANG! "ZzzZzzz!" Fish on! One jump, then the fish went to the left, against the current (1st time for me at this spot..). Not too sure whether its the current , or the angle i had on the fish, but it seems like the fish is rising against the line. (not too sure how to explain this, but it reminds me of how bluewater fisherman raise billfish that went deep by having the boat manuever at an angle) 3 meters out, and the glint of the fish can be seen clearly under the bright moonlight... Hmm.. its a little bigger than what i thought it would be, given the soft strike.. This time, i didnt take any pictures as i had failed to land any fish while trying to take pics.. The pic can wait AFTER i land it... or so i thought.. One more dive by Mr barra, and i slowly pump the fish in.. and as the fish surfaces again, this time a little closer, i realised that the whole lure had been swallowed! At this moment, Mr Barra seem to realise too, and gave a little head shake, and my line parted... along with my favorite minnow.. Oh well, summary for the night, 6 strikes (2 of them explosive surface ones ;D ), 1 solid hook up, 1 fish lost, and a lure lost. For the record, i had another 2 strikes after the breakoff.. and i'm not sure if its the same fish... I just hope MrBarra had manage to spit out my lure, and is doing fine and feeding readily, til the next time i have a date with him. Hmm.. need to update my lure collection already.. A battered and bruised trip for me.. Both ego, confidence, and money.. And time is running out.. will be out of fishing in about a week'stime due to work commitment... Barra 8 : stingray -2

CR: 28April
Got off work a little earlier today, and off i went for a date with MrBarra. A little spray of cologne (OFF insect repellant), and a trip to the florist (to stock up my depleting lures) and off i went, with great anticipation not unlike my first date..
Aiya.. reach there a little too early in my eagerness (like all little boys do) and the tide was still goin down.. Nevermind, the scenery is beautiful, and i get to check out the place in the evening light..
As the evening passes, and dusk turn to darkness, the tide started to turn. I was a little dissapointed that there were no strikes during this time, as a top water strike in full view would have really been special.. Anyway, got to try out all the lures i just acquired, and the different retrieve methods that each one performs..

Like clockwork, MrBarra showed up on time.. And the first strike is always heartstopping.. being more aggressive, and totally unexpected. A loud "POP" at my feet, and line starts to peel... Not too sure if its the nature of the surrounding that creates echo and thus the seemingly LOUD strike, or whether my date is just a noisy eater... Its no mean feat to take a picture of the bending rod, and trying to hang on to a angry date.. It took three tries to get the above picture, and frankly, i'm not capable and thus shall not try this silly attempt next time. A classic case of "kiss and tell" and a angry "kissee" (def: a recipient of a kiss) says goodbye to my lure. Similar to what happened the night before, but this time, I did a double over a double.. See above pic for the damage done by an aggressive kisser..

out of the 4 threads of 10 pounds fireline (double bimini) 2 had been cut clean... So, i redo my "leader" and attached the snapswivel with trembling hands, and changed a different lure.. I suspect Barra dont like to attack the same hard plastic twice in a row.. A few cast later and i can see MrBarra making a swing at the minnow, flashing its glorious silver side very near the surface.. All in all, i had 3 strikes, 2 follows (the barra went for the lure but turned away at the last minute), 1 hook up, and 1 thrown lure.. So, the statistic is now Barra 9 : stingray -3 Well, one cant keep a man happy when he had 9 dates, and havent scored yet!! ;D A last minute decision to change to a popper is akin to a man wandering into joo chiat after a failed date.. 1 cast in, and I hooked up (not with a hooker) with a Todak (poorMan's Marlin).. What a thrill!! Acrobatics, left to right samba, sizzling jumps... Man..I love these One Night Stands!! To hell with my date.. I'm having good, not so clean, fun with Miss Todak! Do pardon my many pics.. Its been a long while since i take pictures of fish A picture of my ROD and my FLING... kekeke.. And finally, a decent attempt at selfpotrait.. altho i do wonder what insect cause a certain area to be blocked... For the record, i regret to inform that MissTodak had too wild a night, and after a session of vengeful sex oops.. i meant phototaking, had pass on... I will make sure that its no mindless killing and all meat will be fully utilised.. One thing that's almost as good as sex.. what else but fishing.. ;D

Hi stingraytan, Nice tommy you got there. I havent landed one for very long since I was only about 18 back then. I had a few misses with them on fly lately but no hook ups. Keep your story rolling! I wonder if your spot has enough space for backcast or not...

Hi stingraytan, Nice tommy you got there. I havent landed one for very long since I was only about 18 back then. I had a few misses with them on fly lately but no hook ups. Keep your story rolling! I wonder if your spot has enough space for backcast or not... Sure was fun fighting Tommy.. Actually, i had like more than 20 strikes from them at that spot over the weeks before finally getting one.. A new popper from changiPro did the trick.. Where did you ;ast have your fling with them? And as for flyfishing for them, I can treat it as a celebration trip for your cast removal by bringing you to the spot? A little tricky, but think can manage lah. But then, I'm not too willing to share the spot BEFORE i actually score with MrBarra.. So.. wish me luck!! I already have half a mind to meet up with some flyfishos here in the hope that one of you will be generous enuff to show me the dark side before i commit myself.. And of cos, what better way to join a cult then sharing our most secret spot? Hahaha.. Perhaps I'm stereotyping here, but flyfisherman give me the impression that they are fishing for the thrill and art, and thus very willing to CnR.. Since the tying of flies and casting is already a big part of the game and its perfectly ok to not bring home any fish.. So what say you?? Let us know when you be ready for a trip and I'll be pretty happy to have one more fishing kaki. And we can help take picture of each other's catch?? You sure did a pretty good job with your friend's Barracuda!

CR: 29April After last night's fling with Miss Todak, I felt all guilty and remorseful.. Especially about her demise after the fun we had. So tonight, after sending my gal home, I headed back to MrBarra's home, with an assortment of chocolates (lures with newly changed hooks). Perhaps its because i miss MrBarra.. Perhaps its a male instinct to do so after commiting adultery.. Reach the spot, and saw some fisherman, marked by their lightsticks on the rods.. Not to worry, i still have my spot all to myself.. Set up my gear, and am full of confidence tonight, especially after Billy's and my gal's well wishes.. This date meant a lot to me.. After like 30mins... MrBarra in the net!! A nice specimen estimated to be slightly above 2kilos..

A splendid KBL, certainly the one i lost the night before.. and the night before that, and the night before THAT.. Oh well... The net is not mine, and i didnt land the fish.. A group of fishos had arrived 15 minutes after me, and not knowing i was below them under the jetty, one of them dropped a floating rig of live fish, right under my nose, and the line went out almost immediately.. My heart sunk.. perhaps MrBarra is used to my lousy fishing techniques, and thus quite used to being hooked without being landed.. Perhaps he's a little lazy tonight. Whatever the reason, He didnt do any acrobatics like before, but still gave a good account of himself, making at least 3 good runs.. A jubilent angler sportingly allows me to take picture of the fish he caught..

Many thoughts crossed my mine.. Among them, silently cursing my luck that MrBarra didnt throw the hook.. But mostly, the vulgarities were directed at myself.. Afterall, i was given more than enuff chances to land MrBarra.. The similarities between a lady and a fish can be astonishing.. It was just the night before that I had switch target after a frustrating date, and enjoyed myself with a flirty todak.. The result is emminent.. MrBarra decided to go home with somebody else tonight..(Not that he will be going home with me had i land him) And I am left dry, not between the legs like with a lady, but of my hands without slime after a pose with the catch.. A parting shot with MrBarra.. I can just detect a hint of sneer from his stare.. as if to say," that'll teach YOU to FLIRT!!" and the spiteful look of "rather die than let me score". Ah.. Like the wise man say, " Never incur the wrath of the fairer sex [Fish], there's nothing more scary than jealousy by a possesive woman [fish] "
