It was about 2 week backs when I entered the tackle shop just by where I stayed and was informed by Lenny that there was a Charity Match on the 27/10/05 at Green Lane Park. It's main purpose was to raise funds for an angler by the name of Dave Johnson, 60+ who had a stroke and is now bedridden for the rest of his life.
So I decided to sign up there and then for the charity match as I thought it would be good as well to fish and learn from match anglers who goes for open matches every weekend. I manage to get Kevin a slot in as well so it would be his first trip to a fishery .
So I met up with the anglers outside the tackle shop, bought a pint of maggots and we were off on the 14seater mini-bus to the fishery. We drew our pegs and headed there and set up the gears. Fishing commenced at 11am and finished at 4pm..
Through out the hours saw me catching carps, 1 small tench and 3 roach. Then there was one carp about 2lb which slip out of my hand while I was talking and swam away to freedom. Little did I know that this carp would have cost me the 1st placing..
The day ended with Frank weighing in a total of 22lb worth of fishes. Myself at 21lb 6oz. 3rd position was at 11lb. All in all and most importantly we manage to raise about £500 for the family and we had a good time out as well.
Overall it was quite an experience pitting up against match anglers and also mixing around with nice anglers and learning a few tips here and there.
Here are the pictures.. Though I didn't have time to take pics of the fish.. but some parts of the charity match.
