Hi Folks, A big thank to mtshark for reminding me about Shawn West flytying demo at Coho. Very interesting and educational too, I've picked a lot of tips from him. Also had the chance to fish with him this morning. He uses the cautery cutter or flytier's hot point, as sold in the Flytyer magazine, to create shallow depressions in the packed deer hair for the eyes. After scorching the areas, he scrapped away the singed surface and stick on the eyes with cement. If you do not have the cutter, you can use a nail, simply burn or heat the nailhead and press the hot suface to the fly. Choose a nail the same size as the eyes that you are using. Use a ash tray, you need one even if you don't smoke and keep ALL hot tools in the tray! The cautery cutter has many uses, as demonstated by Shawn West above, it can also be used: 1) Scored the foam back of flies to create body lines or ridges. 2) Apply to spun hair to fuse the hair together. 3) To cut wings with the aid of wing-cutter templates. 4) To create mono-eyes by melting the mono line. 5) Bending rubber legs or feather legs. 6) To curl the body of mayfly, simply bring the hot point over the surface but NOT touching it. Work well on deerhair and foam. 7) And simply as a cutting tool and so on. If any of you tiers have any other uses, please add on here. Much appreciate it. Mtshark, you have to wait a while, afraid there's a waiting list for the cautery cutter. But you are already on that list. Cheers Qwek

No summons - but a joke instead ;D
I went down to Coho today, and I was in there for only about 5 minutes. When I came out there was a traffic warden writing out a parking ticket.
So I went up to him and said, "Come on, pal, how about giving a guy a break?" He ignored me and continued writing the ticket. So I called him a A-hole with masculine deficiencies. He glared at me and started writing another ticket for having worn tyres! So I called him a piece of cow manure. He finished the second ticket and put it on the windshield with the first. Then he started writing a third ticket! This went on for about 20 minutes... the more I abused him, the more tickets he wrote.
I didn't give a sh!t.
I just made my way to the MRT....wondering how Qwek will feel seeing all them tickets on his car
;D

thanks bro, fly fishing can be daunting at times. but am finding it very relaxing and rather good exercise, as you have to stand, or half-kneel, and keep casting, even if theres no fish to take the fly. and now that i've gotten my first, catch and release must continue to be the aim. was really tempted to take it home to the frying pan to enjoy it. there was a great movie "am river runs through it", a semi-biography of the novelist Norman MacClean, and directed by robert redford. it almost equate flyfishing with romance, environment consciousness, poetry of walt whitman, and almost as a religion. recommend it. cheers eric
