The Griffith's Gnat is tied on very small hooks like size 20. Tilapias and Lampans are the targets for this fly. Baby Peacock Bass also suckers for this fly. Griffith’s GnatCourtesy of Fly TierFly: Bob PettiPhotograph: Hans Weilenmann

Billy,
Try the griffiths gnat in a size # 18 and with a tan body (bleached peacock is perfect) and a Brown hackle, it is my favorite and has worked very well for me for a couple of decades now.
cheers
Jeff
P.S. I will have your copy of rays book in my hand by monday and I will send you the payment info on it and my book

Hi Gnome,
Thanks for the tip, can add that one to some of the tips I've picked up along the way.
Billy, I always carry a small scissor when fishing, if you are not getting much luck with the Griffin Gnat or need to change fly in a hurry. You can trim off the grizzly hackle in portion to imitate other pattern. Simply cut off the bottom off with a V-cut, or cut off the last 3-quarters toward the bend, of trim both the front and rear you can have a small Bivisible.
Try it, just let you imaginations run wild ;D have funs!
Cheers Qwek

Thanks Qwek.
I do carry a pair very small scissorswith me when I fish.
Good innovation. I try it when fishing at Mandai next time. Thanks.
