Hi Guys, This past couple of trips, I have been using softhackle flies and nymphs a lot so I thought it would be a good opportunity to try and start tying some (nymphs off course ) . So I was leafing through my "Fly Tying Bible" and came across the Prince Nymph. This nymph is described as a great general nymph pattern and has an overall profile of a stonefly nymph. The nymphs is not very difficult to tie but I had problem in positioning the wing properly . Here is how my effort looks like This the birds eye view of the Prince Nymph And this is the side profile. I tied this fly with a TMC 101 size 8 long shank hook. Next I'm going to try some Pheasant Tail nymph and a Brassie Nymph next. regards Alberto

Hi Guys, When I first started fly fishing, my fly box was greatly blessed and filled by the generous people I fished with. One fly that was given to me by the Nutty Prof was a softhackled bead fly. I have been having a lot of success with this fly targetting tilapias and the mayans recently... ;D I have decided to learn to tie this fly. The main component of this fly is the bead for the body bought from arts and craft shop. He is what my effort looks like. This fly is not hard to tie. First dub some dubbing and wind it onto the back of the hook shank. I have used orange for this fly. This is done as a stopper to hold the bead. Next wind lead onto the shank for weight and then slide the bead on from the eye. Next is to palmer the hackle (mallard flank) to form the collar and the tie off and build the head. Using large Mallard flank feather and tying the collar tighter causes the feather to flare more producing a different effect. Another version I have tied is by using a different material for the collar. Its Whiting Chickabou. This feather is very soft and the upper part of the pelt feels like mink. This fly works on other species as I have caught PB with it. I shall be taking these flies for a swim this weekend regards Alberto ps Nutty Prof - thanks for the gift of the beads

Nice ties Alberto, how did you managed to get the eye thru? Cheers Qwek Dear Q, With the TMC 103 hook, the white beads can be threaded through the eye with no problems at all. Its the green ones Nine out of 10 that I tried, the moulded opening at the bead is way too small to get the eye through... and thanks for the compliment ;D I think that I can do better and improve on the mallard flank collar as I think I'm being greedy by winding too many turns. regards Alberto

Hi Guys, Last night, I sat down at my vice and attempted to tie a Copper John. This pattern originated from a gentlemen by the name of John Barr. This nymph was a little difficult for me as I have to grapple with rather stiff copper wire. As it was wound around the shank, the biot tail started to turn as well and I have to constantly adjust the position of the biot tail to keep it centered. Here is what my attempt looks like... The view from the top. Side view of the Copper John nymph. The instruction calls for partridge feathers for the legs. Since I did not have any, I looked for a subsititute. I have also tried this version with rubber legs. I wonder if this will work. Till the next fly... regards Alberto
