Tks Ah Ren, I'll keep that in mind. On Sat, had 2 sessions practice, now I have callous on my palm. Noticed leader/tippet not aligning in straight path. Changed leader in 3 sections, 1st section - 15 lbs, 10 & 6. Am I doing this correct? Salom Haggai eh... dude... the name is AN REN... dont worry. quite a few people get the name spelt wrong. if you wanna be real lazy... just put 1 6ft piece of 10 or 12lbs mono and wala. ur done. got ur leader. but if u wanna have a tapered leader, use the twisting method that cookie has suggested. maybe i'll post some instructions on a tapered leader sometime. let us know how u get along yeaH! regarding the hands, perhaps you could get a waterworks lamson glove and put lotion on you're hands until the callous soften.

However if you want to be fussy like me, ;D you can do the twist. I mean just cut about 18ft of mono 10lb, then twist slowly together from the bottom loop using thumb and forefinger to rotate in opp directions the two lines together. This will form a 9ft twisted line. Then divide it into 3 sections and twist again to form a length of 3ft triple to 3ft double twist. Then connect a 3ft long flourocarbon 6lb leader. So you would have a single line of 3ft (3 x 10lb) ---> 3ft (2 x 10lb) ---> 3ft (1 x 6 lb) Hi cookie, That combination is suppose to give you a 30lbs - 20lbs - 6lbs connection down to your fly. But it is not actually so. When you twist or double twist the butt section, we always assume that it will give double or triple strenght. We forget that the weakest link it the knot where the mono cut onto itself. I used to tied my leaders this way, and I found out that the knot always failed when fighting a good size fish. I have since use the Orvis knot. In fact, if you want to use the double twist butt leader, take a 15ft 10lbs (depending on wt you are using) twist the first 10 ft with a loop at the end. When finished, you will have a twisted section of -5ft and a tag end of another 5ft. Where the twist ends, tie a knot using the Orvis method and you have a twisted butt section of 4ft or so and a tag of 5 ft 10lbs. Now you can join a 6lbs tippet using the Orvis Knot. Go to www.Orvis.com to see how the knot is tie. Hope this help. Cheers Qwek
