Hi Yong, I haven't casted a cane spey rod either ... what I meant was the smooth loading of the cane rods and the natural rhythm or 'frequency' of the cane powerfibres seem to match well with us regular guys . I find myself playing catchup with the boron/graphite rods... I personally think a person cannot effectively use a tool he cannot control... As for casting mono, I can understand your point as sometime ago I was experimenting with Lefty's skill of casting the entire flyline with just his hands.. I tried doing some 'free-hand' stuff with nylon kite string about the diameter of silk lines and managed 40ft ... so 45 ft with mono and rod would be quite possible..hehehehe... As for presentation, it is about unrolling the line/leader as close to the surface as possible right? That's what I've been trying to do You cane rod photo did not appear... would love to see it Cheers CY

hi chee yung, i was amazed that you can actually cast mono by hand, will try it out one day.i am glad that you understand the strengths and advantages of cane rods.many are beginning to switch over to cane rods but sadly demand exceeds supply and prices are soaring.it is difficult to get the exact casting action that you want in a graphite rod as they are rolled, not planed into the exact dimensions like in the making of cane rods.all the best , yong.

imagine if you will a bamboo plant swaying violently in a thunder storm.the howling wind tries to tear it's leaves off and whips it violently in the torrential rain.the young shoots at the very top are strained to breaking point.lightning bolts light up the dark stormy night sky and it's freezing cold. however every leaf and young shoot comes away unharmed after the storm, the result of a million years of evolution.never argue with success.

hi,congratulations on the successful completion of your very own cane rod.i can guess what you have gone through and you must be very happy with the results.every cane rod has a story behind it and will have a lot of sentimental value to it's maker.i have lots of happy memories of the eventful process of making mine and only another maker can understand and appreciate the efforts put in .i remember the time i had my finger caught in a section of cane while trying to split it and had to use my feet to pry it open to get free.i'm sure you have lot's of stories to tell too. cheers.
