Hi, I always have the problem of doing as roll-cast as my line just simply don't leave the water high enough to roll out. Please help. The whole stack would just collapse in a mess. Just can't get any distance through the roll cast.

Are you using sinking line? I am no expert but I think a slower or longer rod might be better in loading the line and getting more distance. If you have to do a lot of roll cast due to space constaint, over weighting might also help.

Actually, when I do roll-casting, I always encounter wind knots at the end of the tippet near to the fly. I would really appreciate help on this problem. By the way, I'm using a floating w/ sinking tip weight 7, WF.

Maybe you should practice accuracy with roll casts first then go distance. i read in a fishing book recently that distance comes in time when u got your accuracy. hope this helps. maybe use a lighter fly too so that it is easier to cast.

Hi magminnow, I personally found that aiming higher help when doing a roll cast. Following is an interesting site that might help you. I sometime get the wind knot when snapping my wrist downward and fail to clear my line off the water. Worst when my sinktip is still under the water and have too much drag or line drafting to left due to water movement. In this case you may try pick up and roll cast over your left shoulder. www.letsflyfish.com/rollcastmovie.htmCheers

Hi Magminnow, I know how you feel as I am facing the same problem. The problem is that our charlies and clousers are too big and heavy. Those wonderful roll cast that you see on the videos are (if I'm not wrong) on small dry fly. Sorry I don't really have a solution as I'm working on my roll cast as well cheers Alberto

Hi
I don t know if this is of any help, but have you tried shorter leader? In speycasting we cut in the leader, if we using heavier flies, both with doublehanded and singlehanded, maybee you can use the same principal in your rollcast.
Ordinary flies-1,5 rodlength leader, and heavy flies-shorter leader.
Cheers

Maybee your rod is not straight during the cast? the line will follow the direction the tip of your rod has, that s in other cast s anyway, probably much the same principals in rollcasting, hope it was some help.
