Hi folks,
I wonder if anyone here (beside Jimmy Aw) is a member of SFAS, and do you know what is the mission of the associationa and how is it run? I have met some ex-members, and asked the same questions. Other than the profanities there nothing that is sound or interesting attracted one to cheerfully join the association. Unless your goal is to fish Semakau Island landfills.
So what is the Mission of the SFAS? Is it a sporting organisation or a public interest group? A voice for the anglers in Singapore or a voice it angling members in SFAS?
I am sorry to be blunt but this sounds like something that a secret society or the Communist Party cadre would say : "Can't tell you unless you are one of us."
How can one make up his/her mind to join SFAS if he/she does not even know what SFAS is trying to advocate? What are SFAS's positions on various sports fishing regulations and issues?
Like Shadowcaster has highlighted that it is an imperative for an organization that bears the name of SFAS to have some form of inclusiveness towards the local sport fishing community. It does not mean that every opinion needs to be implemented but every voice should count.
Is the SFAS operating in a private capacity? Is there transparency? These also some of the questions many of us are asking.
My next question is; "Is there a need of another fishing/angling society or association?"
Based on the information on SFAS's website, it appear to be a sporting club. It seems to be focused on foreign affliliations for it activities. There seem to be lack of public education on fishing awareness or safety. So unless one forget what SFAS means: it is SPORT Fishing Association (Singapore). SPORT.
Do we need or can SFAS address the local anglers' concern on the future of fishing in Singapore? I have my doubts like many anglers beside me. I am tired of looking at: "The SFAS Site you are trying to access is currently undergoing maintenance. Sorry for the inconvenience." don't you think that it is time to act for the future of fishing in Singapore.
There are two ways to go about it:
1) Join SFAS and elects your representatives, peoples who are capable to bring sport fishing in Singapore onto higher level.
2) Form your own society or association. All you need is just 10 members to form an organisation for registration with the Registry of Society. How to form one?
What information or documents do I have to prepare before applying?
