We have reviewed the white paper written by Tan Yik. It is a commendable effort on the part of the author and the paper has received much applause among supporters in the Fly Fishing Singapore Forum and Fishingkaki forums.
The SFAS Executive Committee respects the aspirations of the author, the signatories and the supporters of the white paper. The paper advocates the establishment of a broad based conceptual framework for the protection and preservation of fishing environments and the dedicated promotion of sport fishing in Singapore. We are indeed encouraged by such passion shared by fellow sport fishing enthusiasts who are equally prepared to undertake the same cause as us. We are exhilarated by the enthusiasms shared by fellow sport fishermen and the committee sincerely wishes the author and all the supporters success in this altruistic endeavour.
Nevertheless we would like to offer a suggestion to Quek and the author, which in our opinion would help in assuring the ultimate success of your aspirations. It would be laudable for the signatories and supporters of the paper to form interest groups or working committees aimed at developing implementation plans in relations to your conceptual proposals. In doing so, it would demonstrate to the target recipients your readiness to undertake responsible commitments that would underpinned your proposed suggestions. Quek and Tan Yik should consider assuming effective leaderships for such a formidable undertaking and lead the supporters in taking the proposal further by formulating specific implementation plans, guidelines and enforcement procedures for the governmental agencies to adopt. Such affirmative commitments in terms of planning and altruism would aid the various agencies’ positive adoption and thereby prompt implementation of the proposed suggestions as discussed in the white paper.
It is our hope and we earnestly look forward to the day when there are more interest groups emerging from the local fishing community committed in the pursuit of a noble cause, who are committed to affirmative undertakings in our quests towards promoting sport fishing as well as fostering a more promising sport fishing environment in Singapore.
Good Luck and Success to the White Paper.
