Hi Unlce Alberto, That's good news! Hopefully, all efforts are maximised and these 'elites' would be great assets for all Singapore's anglers to make a better future for local anglering scene. Let's all hope for a better tomorrow and may our dreams come true. Let's all carry on 'watering' our 'young shoots' for our dreams to materialize.

A thousand pardons but hounding the shark, finds me here......wondering if it might be a good idea for someone to contact the reporter who wrote that article, to see if he may be interested to do a follow-up on that piece - ON THE HOMEFRONT, by honouring the PICNIC and DANCE with his presence ( Blimey - I can't believe I wrote all that into 1 paragraph ) ;D Here's to the day when Full-time Rangers can be Part-time Flyfishing Guide

This looks like good news. Does anyone think it will be helpful to reply to the ST forum to enforce the fact that encourging stewardship and empowerment to the community is welcomed by us flyfishers?
I had taken the liberty to draft a few paragraphs to convey the above idea. This sort of lead in to the Proposal that we will send to the Ministers and the related agencies (PUB, N Parks etc.) shortly.
Please feedback on your thoughts. please be my guest to suggest amendments or edit/re-write as you see fit.
======================================= I refer to the report “Taking care for good fun at reservoirs” (ST, 11 July 05)
The local fly fishing community welcomes the opportunity to contribute towards caring and optimising our water resources. Unlike the conventional notion of fishing where the objective is to harvest maximum amount of fishes, sports fishing employs definitive fishing tackle to target game fish in a sporting manner. Sports fishers enjoy the activity for the outdoor environment and sporting pursuit of game fish and always preserves and protects environmental resources to ensure sports fishing quality for the future.
We agree that civic consciousness and ownership by respective interest group are important elements to sustain the environmental resources. Nevertheless, we also feel that it is equally important to promulgate sound environmental management policies and construct effective avenues to uphold these policies. The Singapore fly fishing community will actively contribute our proposal towards promulgating these policies, particularly in the area of sports fishing. We are confident that we too can build a world class sports fishery among our local reservoirs and waterways. =======================================
Best Regards

Please let me know if anyone feels that this is inappropriate. If there are no objections to using this phrase, I'll need support through a number of signatories to indicate that we are indeed a community. One way of doing it is by using the list of signatories that are already on the Paper. Opinions?

Hi TY
Great idea! You have my full support on the reply to the press. It good to let the public know that there is indeed a flyfishing community, that also support other forms of angling. I think the others would object to the same signatories for the reply as well.
Cheers Qwek

Another great initiative from TY ! Tan Yik, you may want to first highlight that the article referred to waterbodies in Australia where SPORTFISHING IS THE MOST POPULAR ACTIVITY... where fish like perch (golden?) and bass were released and managed... IMHO CY

Hi Chee Yung, If you are reffering to the Straits Time article, it about the PUB officials visit to USA and not Australia. My apologies if I have got it wrong. Alberto

Hi Chee Yung, If you are reffering to the Straits Time article, it about the PUB officials visit to USA and not Australia. My apologies if I have got it wrong. Alberto ... my bad alberto.... cant for the life of me remember which continent it referred to. But I vaguely remember the part where fishing is mentioned the most popular activity... sorry for the mistake Cheers CY

Thanks for the replies! I had included feedback and comments into the writeup. The following was emailed to ST Forum with the 53 signatories that supported the White Paper. Let's see what happens.
======================================= I refer to the report “Taking care for good fun at reservoirs” (ST, 11 July 05)
The report talked about several reservoirs and water ways in the United States visited by the PUB recently where sports fishing ranks among the top recreational activity. The report cited that the authorities and local interest groups jointly ensure the sustainability of these water resources. The report also mentioned that with the opening of more reservoirs in Singapore for recreation, the authority would like to see people playing a bigger part in sustaining our local water resources.
The Singapore fly fishing and lure fishing community welcomes the opportunity to contribute towards caring and optimising our water resources.
We agree that civic consciousness and ownership by respective interest groups are important elements to sustain the environmental resources. Nevertheless, we also feel that it is equally important to promulgate sound environmental management policies and construct effective avenues to uphold these policies. For example, the successful sports fisheries in the US visited by the PUB are sustained by a combination of periodic game fish stocking programs and judicious enforcement of sports fishing regulations by the local Fish & Game Departments.
The Singapore fly fishing and lure fishing community will actively contribute our proposals towards promulgating these policies, particularly in the area of sports fishing. We are confident that we too can build a world class sports fishery among our local reservoirs and waterways.
This letter contains 53 signatories.
