If we have the world's oldest rainforest and therefore insect life like nymphs and emergers..then, is the sikang the world's oldest trout? If it is not a trout then could it be an ancient ancestor of some of the asian trout species ?It has indeed been named the' Malayan hill trout' so there could be a possibility......................please comment , Thanks.

Hi Yong, The Sikang (Barilius guttatus) is from the carp family... not a trout I think Nice to imagine it as a trouty though... ;D Cheers CY

Hi CY,I cant argue with your view that it is a carp so i may have to find the missing link by digging up some rock fossils to prove otherwise.Guess what, bonefish is also a carpy .We just cant run away from all those ..... carps.See you and cheers.

Thanks for the good write ups guys.I have just received some dry flies from a friend who claims they are very effective on trout and grayling. One is the red tag and the other is called the Leckford professor .The professor was tied by Ernest Mott the keeper of the Leckford stretch of the Test river! I am sure they will work on the Sikang and cant wait to try them out asap!If any one of you have caught Sikang on dry flies before please let me know which pattern works best.Cheers.
