Hi all,
It's hard to imagine that a fish will take a fly at night but I suppose it is possible, right?
I like to hear what you guys have to say about fly fishing at night, your personal fishing experiences and what fish was caught by what flies. ;D

Fishes do take files at night. I fish quite often in the night then day. It either on bright colour flies or dark ones. Do a slow strip work best. Do try it, but the catch rate is random

Okay, did an early morning session while it was still dark. Had a couple of taps on the line but no hookup. Takes on a white and a black woolly bugger. Interesting, hope to land a fish on my next attempt.

SUCCESS!After an encouraging 1st session fishing in the dark, I ventured to FW3 for an early morning session. Started fishing at 5:30am, the sky was still pitch black. Only 3 bait anglers were there in the early morning, plenty of room to fly fish. Tied on my BOC fly which has proven itself before. Did a few casts and slow strips at the platform. Had one take but did not hookup. Hmmm, promising start. Renewed casting effort and soon felt a slow tug on the line. Stripped the line and lifted the rod... the rod bent. Felt something heavy at the end of the line... like sangkok like that. Then it took off! Felt like a good fish. Had my knuckles rapped when it took off on the initial sizzling run. Took up all the slack line and then some. Then it doubled back. Ahh, fights like a CPC (Choa Phraya Catfish). The handler came by to assist in landing the fish. But he had to wait. The fight took about 15 minutes. This CPC put up a good fight for its size. Confirmation that fish DO take fly at night.About 15 minutes later, landed another CPC of a similar size on a similar BOC fly. Did not take picture this time as I wanted to continue fishing asap. Had another hookup soon after but lost the fish. At 6:40am, the first light began to brighten up the sky slowly. One last cast before I had to leave. Another solid hookup! Fought like a CPC. But lost the fish - thankfully, as I REALLY had to go. Stopped fishing at 6:45am. During a space of 1 hour 15 minutes, landed 2 CPCs and lost 2 - confirmation that fish do take fly at night!

After fishing successfully on the 'dark' side, I ventured for another shot of 'shooting in the dark'. Arriving at 3am, I spotted only 2 other anglers. Setup my fly rod and starting casting at 3:15am. Within 5 minutes, I hooked up a nice CPC on my BOC fly. Sometimes the smaller ones fight just as good if not better than the bigger cats. Took me a good 20 minutes to subdue this 'small' cat. Had some other takes and did not hook up. Left at 5:45am.

So far, the only type of fish I have caught while fly fishing 'on the dark side' has been the CPC. Well, no longer. A strange new specie has been caught - a Motoro Ray on fly! Caught me by surprise too. I was slow stripping a brown and white zonker streamer and I felt like I snagged onto something. Instinctively, I stripped. The rod bent and I felt the weight moved slightly and then stopped. I pulled with my rod but the weight did not budged. I thought, hmm, perhaps I am struck. I palmed the reel, lowered the rod tip and pulled. Nope, still stuck. I moved over to the left and pulled. Ai, can feel the weight move a bit. I moved to the right and pulled. Steadlily, the line seemed to give a little. Slowly, the weight was lifted up to the surface. Aha! a Motoro Ray appeared! No fight leh, just like lifting a dead weight. Took some pictures as proof that I did catch a Motoro on fly. Incredible? believe it! Hmm, perhaps I should change my nick to Motorocafe, kekeke.
