Hi All,
Please kindly advise on the type of backing that you are using now. Need some recommedation. I am using the new SA thinner backing and while it is strong, I find it a bit too thin to my liking and of course to begin thinner means more backing to fill the reel = more $$$ needed ;D ;D
Oh I forgot that I love colourful ones like bright pink, purple, orange etc ;D ;D
thanks in advance

I am using yellow tuffline xp 30lbs 300 yards on my Ross BG4 my Vortex has 200meters of 45 or50 lbs GSP backing from SA evo 3 has just got some normal white dacron backing which i intend to change to GSP or top up with more dacron. If you like colourful backing, maybe you can use PE line, change colour evey 10 meters or sth liddat or mayb bright green fireline ;D
hope this helps

hi, I'm new at flyfishing ..so just some common sense views : first, the floating fly line itself floats, or the intermediate & sinkline sinks; the critical part of casting and flyfishing is the flyline; the backing is used so as not to have too much of the expensive flyline in the reel, thus most are between 25m to 40m, right? second, once the fish is on, if you run out of flyline, the backing takes up the function of the line as it leaves the reel and trails behind the flyline in the water, right? finally, the backing must be strong enuogh to fight the fish, and light enough to be manouverable, right? So....maybe, just ordinary reliable polymer fishing line of perhaps equal strenght and wt to the flyline would do...inexpensive, will not soak up water, stinks and rot, dires easily, protecting the reel and the spool. ......just views from a freshy
