The Fly tying Bible - by Peter Gathercole.. hard cover, ring binded. CoHo use to have a few available, else, there's usually 1 in the shop to browse as i recall. The good ppl at CoHo also advise on fly tying.. see the evident vise sitting on the bench? go check out with your sifu there, fly tying & catching a fish on your own tied fly is another joy in itself..! cheers! Hi, FYI, so happened to pass by AMK cash converter store today and saw some fishing stuff on sales there. Browse around and saw on offer a big pack of dry flies at 50 cents for 100 dry flies (20 pkts of 5 flies per pkt). Grab 2 big pack for only $1. Quick go and grab it before they are gone (fishing). Went down this morning.....and i was too slow all flies gone fishing. imx: post pix of the purchased packet flies .. or tie 200 dry flies to be shared as a punishment to U.. ;D ;D

Hi cookie,
Yes, do drop by Broder and kinokunia bookstores. They carry quite a range of flytying books and Broder has the quarterly issue of Flytyer. There's always a sales at yearend.
Marc, will make arrangement to pass the flies to you sometime next week.
Cheers Qwek

I order mine a few yrs ago..... and after shipping to Singapore, when I calculated...sh!t I paid S$50 over dollars which is more that what Borders was selling! So unless you are going to buy alot from Amazon, its not worth buying it alone!

Need some advise here...What wt flyrod is most suitable for distance, should it be fast or superfast action??? Recommended brand such as TFOs, Sage etc??? Hi noviceflyer, you should have started a new thread to get more response as this thread is pretty old. Anyways welcome to fly fishing. I took up this wonderful sport 8 months ago and I've never looked back. If you are asking this question, it means you have not yet grasped the concept of fly fishing. To help you love the art of fly fishing more, I strongly recommend you have some personal training sessions with a very good fly caster. I would recommend Henry of COHO at beach rd. You will have less frustration if you have someone to guide you well. Off hand just to answer your question, the higher the line weight, the easier to cast against wind and gain distance. However, with heavier weight lines and rods, you get fatigued much faster and fighting fish isn't as fun as with lighter lines. The action of the rod is subjective to the caster. Some prefer fast, some prefer slow or medium. But as you approach weight 8 and above, usually the rods tend towards fast action as they are much stiffer for fighting bigger fish. Brand wise, it all depends on your budget. TFO is lower end, SAGE is higher end. Of course, the more you are willing to invest in your gear, the better quality gear you will get. But if you are just starting off, do let us know too what fish you are targeting too. Freshwater or saltwater. Cheers
