vest? well, you could if coho has vests or you could buy one meant for cameras as they have lots of small pockets, or you could buy a waist pack. for a vest, i recommend a mesh one since the tropics are very hot and humid. however a waist pack is much much cooler.
wading shoes,, try any diving or sailing shop. they will have something that u want.
fly box... you could buy from coho the clear plastic one with lots of little round things sticking out where u press ur hooks in between for your small dry flies and such. for saltwater flies see if u can get a completely foam box so it floats if you drop it. i have a blue loop box which is all foam and held shut by magnets.

Hi cookiemunster,
A warm welcome to FFSF.
You may want to tell us what type of fishing you need these gears for, if it just for local water you want to forgo the first two until you are ready for overseas bash even Malaysia waters.
Assuming you are gearing up for local water:
1) Vest - it can very hot to wear in our climate, even we do use for Malaysia streams and rivers and the mesh can help cool off a bit only. A lumbar pack, like those you find in the Army Market in Beach Rd Hawker Centre or from Sporting Connection. Choose one that has a waterbottle holder and with at least three compartment for your wallet, camera, etc, etc; another for your flyboxes and another for your leaders and tippets. You can still carry it around townand not stick out like a sore thumb if you were to wear a vest.
2) Wading Shoe - Fishing on flats and breaker require a good rubber soles and at time cleats help very much. Rivers' slippery boulders and rocks/pebbles need felt bottom soles for a good grip. You may need to buy two deifferent pairs of boots for these. I have gone thru many type of so-called water sport shoes and sandals, and each has it own set back. You may want to consider a pair Crocs sandal, this is the best I have try for shore, river banks and even for boat decks. Straight out of your house with these and back from fishing without changing or worrying about a pair of wet and smelly shoe or sandals.
But if you want a separate pair of shoe, you want to consider what Pirate has suggested, sailing booties. There a shop in Simpang Bedok run by a former Windsurfing Champion, Kah Soon. The shop used to be called Sailspirits, not sure if the name stay but the shop is still there. The shop is before the firestation on the way to Simei. from Bedok.
3) Flyboxes - Check out Five Dots for those "Marryat" boxes cheap and good, now that a phase I have not heard for a long time. Angler Huts has a very good range of flyboxes to suit your need, durable plastic cover and slit foam inside to hold your flies securely.
Hope these info are helpful.
Cheers Qwek

Hi Pirate and Qwek,
thanks for the tips and advise. Thinking about it I think you guys are right, vest is too hot for our country. What I'll need is more like a SBO webbing which I'll check out in beach rd hawker area.
Wading shoes I think no choice but to stick to booties. Crocs are way way too slippery on muddy flats. One of my bashing trips, I was knee deep in mud and totally regretted wearing the crocs as when I managed to extract myself, my crocs were still deep in and I had to dive in with my hands.
Thanks for the tips on five dots and Anglers hut. Will check them out.
I plan to be doing alot of bashing and some reservoir fishing. Was at one time even contemplating getting waders and a float too when I was luring and spinning but changed my mind.
Cheers ;D

Hi cookiemunster, if u r the same person who has written in FK.com.. then your dream is becoming a reality.. ;D For local bashing, the 4wt rod u picked is a great set to start. i jus like to add a few other items.. forcep - from pharmancy or watson, useful for removing hooks from fishes line a nail cutter - for cutting line / knots off a hook when changing flies & line. available at coho or other tackle shop. A hat or cap with a bib & Sunglasses - not only they protect u from the weather, it helps prevent injury from errand hook-flies during casting. (de-barbing hooks' second reason.. ) ==== Find a buddy to fly fish with, its twice the fun as well as picking up simple habits like looking out the backcast area so that we don't whip a hook onto another passerby jogger.. walk up to another fly fisho when u r fishing, mostly u will be welcomed with a friendy smile.. i'm sure u will learn & enjoy yourself here in this forum, making new friends, just as many of us have.. WeLcoME..!

Wow thanks Alberto. Thats really generous of you hehehe I'll look forward to that! Yup indeed fisho, my dream is becoming a reality. If only all my millionaire dreams of lazing around in the Bahamas with babes comes true soon too. hehehe ;D It was a strange way for me to start flyfishing. I've been crazy about fishing but never was interested in flyfishing until I had this fantastic dream 2 weeks or so ago. Was wading in a crystal clear river filled with strange tarpon like fish, they were almost in plague like numbers and surprisingly I was doing flyfishing instead of luring. You can tell this is an asian dream cos theres no salmon or trout in the dream. hahaha. ;D Fish after fish I caught and was grinning from ear to ear. Just couldn't forget that happy feeling and so thats how I got hooked and interested in flyfishing now. And it turns out although I have not caught a single fish yet on fly but I've already felt the friendliness and openness of fellow flyfishers. Which is really great! By the way, now that I want to know more about different flies too, can anyone recommend a good fly bible like book? Thanks

Hi, FYI, so happened to pass by AMK cash converter store today and saw some fishing stuff on sales there. Browse around and saw on offer a big pack of dry flies at 50 cents for 100 dry flies (20 pkts of 5 flies per pkt). Grab 2 big pack for only $1. Quick go and grab it before they are gone (fishing).
