some busters the Dr. has put into the pond.. gotta make a trip there soon!! ;D hmm.. the cork drag is "glued" onto the main gear, hardly can move it. i wonder if its possible that the heat generated on the cork drag during a fish run which might have loosen the glue holding the cork disk? other bros with Tibors..inputs? write to tibor already? cheers!

Cork is a fantastic drag material especially when one lubricates it religiously. When it is dry they get jammed easily and bad things happen. Of course the glue in your case is not quite fastened to the ceramic gear and no fault of yours.
It is with good reasons that ALL big performance spinning and baitcasting reels utilize Carbon Fiber or other synthetic materials. These reels are constantly used to land fish bigger and stronger than our fly tackles.
You may just have to send the gear back to Tibor alone to save cost, ask them for advice. Good to see the dogs are now made in stainless steel, they used to be copper (year 2000?) and mine got worn-off just by spooling in lines.

Dear Potcy, I have seen a few similar reels - some were even worse off and those had seen actions on the beaches of Normandy... oops sorry, New Caledonia.... I mean. My friends busted quite a few Abel drags. The Tibors were slightly better and the guess was that the unported side probably protected the reel internals slightly better from the exposures of the elements. It can be fixed by regular maintenance of oiling and cleaning. I am lazy thus I always prefer the sealed drags. However, this is my personal preference and I know many in this forum will disagree with the concept of sealed drags. I just bring along one or 2 more for insurance. ;D Francis

I've used my Everglades & Riptide with near locked up drag on Ed's pet and fortunately, all turned out well except for the 60lb leader on a few occassions. I had also landed an 18lb milkfish on a Freestone after a 45min fight with no issues with the drag. Your cork drag does look a tad dry as Tibors were designed to run on graphite grease. But even then, it should not cause the cork disc to shift. Its likely to be a case of improper or deteriorated bonding between the cork disc and the drag plate. I would recommend that you email Tibor. I've had superb post sales service from them thus far. I would be surprise if Ted Jr does not give you a free replacement of the defective parts.

The 'Pond' can be any form of water bodies, we just need to realize milkfish are anodromous (thrive in fresh and saltwater) and grow large and fast by eating weeds and algae. The rest is up to our imagination and motivation. I think if we want something we will have to work for it. Otherwise we will have to spend even more money to travel to distant land for it. Truth is stranger than fiction at times
