Nice article Alberto! Hope you have also read Tom Morgan's interview on www.rodbuildingforum.com. I am also contemplating the Morgan Hand Mill instead of the standard planing form... but at $2300 plus...its a huge jump! But imagine making quadrates, pentas, hollowfluting winston style.... woo hoo!Tempting indeed!... Uncle Wong? ;D ;D Cheers CY

Hi Chee Yung, wow! it will be nice to have local bamboo rod builder. Imagine Singapore built rods selling in the States. But all the tools and materials are so costly, and I hope you get sponsorship from Singapore Pools! And I can be a proud owner of the CY Bamboo rod. ;D ;D ;D

Chee Yung,
Very interesting indeed but it is a different story all together if we were to tempt it here. I always suspect our climate is prohibitive.

Hi Jimboz and Uncle Wong, I'm not so ambitious as to commercially produce rods and as spoken earlier, I'm taking this REALLY SLOWLY ;D But if this egg ever hatches, the forum guys will be the first guinea pigs to 'test to failure' ;D Uncle Wong, I have been given the assurance by experienced rodbuilders ( Chris Carlin, Mike Shay, Goldenwitch etc) that our climate is not a problem once the bamboo is heat treated. We must select the right type of cane and heat treat properly and the culm is ready to be used! What I meant was the Morgan Handmill is really interesting... but I guess I'll start with a simple swelled butt hex! ;D Cheers CY

Hey CY, whether you are ambitious as to commercially produce rods or not, I don't care. The important thing is, I get to try and test your first made bamboo rod! ;D ;D ;D

There is another article/interview of Tom by Bob Maulucci that I have saved as a pdf document. If someone can show me how to attach it to this thread, I can share it for all to read. regards Alberto

hi guys ,i would like to assure you that making cane rods is not difficult or expensive and does not require a large room.i made mine in my hall and the corridor outside my tiny apartment.however the process involves a lot of patience and muscle power and logical reasoning and time.there will be screw ups and messy lacquer but this should not discourage you on your attempts .i can guide you on how to split and cut the cane etc. to a manageable strip as this is a tricky process. keep up the good work.cheers,yong.
