Hi Jimboz, Thanks for the nice pics! Where did you obtain them? The interesting one was the japanese rod which I think is a 'marutake' rod ie rod made of multiple pieces of bamboo culms, no planing , just straightening and joining different pieces with bamboo ferrules . www5.ocn.ne.jp/~mayfly/BAMBOO/marutake01.html Uncle Wong, I think this is the ultimate DIY rod... naturally hollow-built ;D ;D.... and expensive too ... well trust our Nippon bros to go to perfectionist extremes Cheers CY

Chee Yung, Must go into the mountain ranges in southern China to hunt for the perfect bamboo stalks to make Marutake liao. Maybe spend 1 year in the mountain live like tarzan and wait for 1 year for it to dry before making it into marutake ;D ;D ;D. No wonder you said it is going to be expensive ;D ;D ;D ;D

But I've found a nice place to kapor bamboo including the small ones for 'marutake'... Check out the 24 hour McDonalds at Farrer Road near Holland/Queensway... looking for my parang and samurai costume liao! Caution... may be arrested by Ronald McDonald for Hamburglaring but I guess that is better than spending a jungle year wearing loin-cloth... Hmmm then again, having Jane as company may not be too bad for you.... ;D ;D Cheers CY

For the record......
There're no gorillas in China.....except from the zoo - like the one in S'pore ? ;D
But there are, close to extinction - Panda Bears in China
So lets save the Pandas - use PLASTIC

For the record, pandas eat mostly highland bamboos and tonkin isn't among them www.giantpandabear.com/DHTML/feeding.htmland pandas are actually heathier eating other vegetables.... ;D ;D... and producing plastic is creating acid rain that kills off the bamboo But the gorilla fact highlighted by FC still holds true... unless someone who is really macho sh*t and hairy volunteers to play a Tong San gorilla ;D ;D Cheers CY

Ahhh... another of FC's enlightened statement from Lake district The tragedy is choosing the wrong bamboo rod... Tonkin aka 'tea-stick' bamboo is about finesse... minimalist tea-ceremony style... including the japanese babes... ermm NOT olde Madames mind you Qwek ;D However, 'Madake' aka 'Mad-teko' bamboo is used for black eye wacking kendo sticks.... Tragedy indeed ;D ;D Looking for Too much heaven? Well, do that 1 year sabatical with jungle Jane suggested by Uncle Wong... Deep in debt?? aka 'How Deep is Your Love' or pessimists crooning... 'have you seen my wife Mr Jones..'....yknow, buried in New York mine shaft deep , well,.... just sign on those divorce papers ' You win again' ;D Cheers CY
