Is that an Orvis Shooting Star? Nice rod, Tibor reel and Queenie ... all silver and all saltwater boo indeed! Its an Orvis Salmon, 9'6" 3/2 for GAF(9). With a WF8F SA Bonefish taper, 2 back-cast will shoot into the backing! Has a nice firm butt too to put the wood on a stubbon fish. Still took a better part of 10 minutes to land the 4-5 pounders on 10lb tippet though. I thought the Tibor was a rather odd-match...... A Bogdan Salmon #1 or Peerless 6A would have been nicer.....

TY, Thanks for the correction regarding rod ID. Dont hear much about Orvis salmon rods but from your description, it sounds like a canon ... for another Alaska trip??? hehehehe I've been eyeing those Bogdans too especially the Baby Bogdans... but somehow, I'm more into rods and less into reels ...weight of classic reels being one of the determining factors...which is all the better for my battered wallet ;D... anyhow, my Mike Clark will come with a Peerless ;D Cheers CY

But those Bogdans would have required me to sell my casting arm to afford one though..... Peerless are sweet, but I believe Mike makes a Leonard reel replica that'll match his rod nicely. The Siskiyou I recently bought was really nice too. But I think Ted Godfrey still makes the prettiest classic reels. How many more years do you still have to be on que for Mike's rod? ;D ;D Gierach's Special? or AK's fav?

Hi TY, 7 plus oz ..Now thats a heavy mother that needs some pig metal to balance up ;D ;D. Well, big fish need big rods... I'm contemplating a hollowbuilt spey if I should go for big cane rods ;D That said, I agree that 'balance' is something that needs to happen with cane rods depending on which aspect of the rod you want to bring out. My Fries work best with a heavy reel if I want to use its fast action tip and do a Lefty style stab cast. However, if I want to emphasise its parabolic mid section, I'd stick to my lighter reels... does that make sense? Interesting that you prefer Godfrey's aesthetics... I'm rather into that bimetal reel expression myself ;D... still weighing an original Leonard bimetal fairy reel ( or a Kusse equivalent) against the rest of wannahaves .... Mike's in house reel seems to have more Vom Hoffe/Bellinger qualities than Leonard qualities IMHO. I do prefer ported Peerless reels or Bogdans if I have to choose a work horse reel... BTW the wait is down to two more years... if I get lucky, I may bring the family down to Lyons as part of my USA jaunt mid next year and see if he has 'extra' cane lying around...hehehehe.... The rod I ordered is just a simple 3 pc 5wt 7' 9" trout rod with saltwater resistant hardware. No Gierach or AK signature for me as I feel that Mike is best at custom work. Cheers CY

Hi TY,
With a silver like that I like to see my backing into nothing.
Great Catch on the chopstick.

CY, Haven't visited here for a while. Tourist season is over and I'm back in full production ~ no time to play! Thank you for the kind comments. Your order is currently number 130 (out of 204!) so still some time for your decisions. Hope to meet you and your family at my shop next year. You and the members of your Forum are welcome to visit; let us know when. Here's a rod just completed today, just curing before shipment. Best, Mike

Hi Mike,
The cosmestics of your rods are simply magical! I'm certain that their casting capability are of similar quality.
I'm haunted by your rods ;D ;D...........
