Hi Huns, Your information about flyfishing for carps are great work! Especially, you are getting them on flies instead of offering them a piece of bread. Many anglers around the world always normally give the carp a pass and target other fish. From my very own experience, I totally agree with you about having good stamina to battle them. Their determination and power beat the living day lights out of most anglers when they happened to foul hook one by chance like me. Once they make that run, the reel could keep on coughing out line for as long as 20s. If you have a lousy drag or malfunctioning drag, you are busted and you would feel absolutely naked like never before. By the way, I have a friend who happened to hook up carps using little spoons on a spinning rod. He was targeting largemouth bass but somehow, the carp took the spoon! It took him more than 30mins to land that fellow, a 20lbs monster! Not just once, but twice he caught carp on spoons... Do you have such an experience or do you happen to have friends who got carps on spoons? This is really interesting as if they take spoons, they might also take flash clousers... Keep you reports coming!

Thanks Guys, am glad you find the reading interesting..........
Sharkie, you right about the Carps when they start peeling lines off your reel.........the feeling of "self Shiokness"....... it's like you're lit up by a thousand watts of life!
I haven't the opportunity to land one on spoon yet..... but I did land a few on lures, ie; shallow Fat-rap, minnows and spinners while fishing in Malaysia(one of the pond) and here in Japan...... all hits were on sloooow retrieve. Hey, the Carps here also feed on berries...... when fell in the drink, it's cocktail party time for the Carps!
Cheers,
Huns.

Hi Huns, I guess they are the same ones we saw at Sansui in Shinjuku. The reason that I did not go ahead with the purchase is that they were made in China and not Japan Looking forward to catching up with u soon ;D regards Alberto

Summer Season. It's the Summer holiday season in Japan and my wife and I decided to take a long drive up North for a short Summer vacation at one of the Hot Spring Spa Resorts in Yamagata Prefecture. The drive along the Tohoku Expressway was smooth, covering about 500km within 4 hours. Along the route, Paddy fields and Sunflowers covered the countryside landscape. The Spa Resort sits just along the Mogamigawa (Mogami River). There are no trouts in this section of the river, only carps were seen feeding the shallow depths. Mogamigawa When I spotted this insect outside of my hotel room window, knew I had with me the right ammo on this trip! The first river I came to wet my fly line was at Hirosegawa (Hirose River), which flows between Yamagata and Miyagi Prefectures about 40km drive away from the Spa Resort. Found a lot of trouts rising fastidiously in this long, slow, glassy currents. These are some of the flies I tied before embarking on this trout fly fishing trip............ chocolate candies for the trouts! I have with me, CDC Duns dry-fly, Yellow CDC Sally dry-fly, CDC Royal dry-fly, Dying Caddis dry-fly, Cased Caddisfly Larvae (Limnephilidae) wet-fly, Orange Crust wet-fly and The Red Tag wet-fly. Through the many years of fly fishing in this part of the world, Japan's Freestone rivers, my observations the trouts in these streams feed more readily with gusto on CDC flies. On the Hirosegawa, I only managed to land Rainbow trouts. The Golden trouts were not feeding that aggressively, though I did hookup two but did not managed to land it. A Yellow CDC Sally #16 dry-fly taken by the Rainbow This 2kg Rainbow was taken on the Dying Caddis #16 dry-fly This Rainbow was swimming beside the submerged rock and as I haul my Dying Caddis dry-fly to wards that direction, let it drift down a little as the trout gently rise to sip my fly. The next moment I felt my SCL 3wt rod jerking and my Bauer M.5 reel was peeling off lines. Thank god my Vanish 6lbs tippet hold! As we walked back to wards our car after 3 hours of casting, stopped by to take some photos of these.......... Well, that ends my first day of fly fishing .................... To be continued............
