Hi,
Thank you all for taking the time to contribute to this proposal.
We had left 2 hard copies of this proposal at Coho Fishing Tackle shop at Beach Road. The first copy of the proposal is addressed to the Minister for the Environment & Water Resources while the second copy is addressed to the Minister of Community Development, Youth & Sports.
With the copies of the proposals are the Signatory sheets. For those who wish to show your support for this proposal, please take the time to head down to Coho and provide your signature.
Thank You!

I also sincerely hope that the SFAS sit up and take notice at the effort the fishing community is doing for a better tomorrow.

Hi may I know what type of buget would be set aside for this proposal and would the any government body invest the time and manpower to cultivate this? How much of the country's population would this affect? Just some practical considerations as these are always what the govt. bodies look at.

How much of the country's population would this affect? Just some practical considerations as these are always what the govt. bodies look at. Hi Evelyn, You had made an excellent point about budget! Apologies for the late reply as I had been away for the last 2 weeks for some back-breaking fishery survey ;D I fully understand that nothing moves without allocation of budget and manpower establishment. If this had been an "Implementation Proposal", then it would not be complete if the budgetery and manpower issues are not covered. Some possible sources of operating budget may come from fishing licence fees or commercial taxation from sporting goods business. In other countries, some hatchery are actually sustained by non-profit oriented interest groups that raise money through their own effort to keep their fishing waters well stocked with game fish. A lot of research and market survey will be required to determine the correct quantum to charge for these fees and tax rates if they are applicable in the first place. Nevertheless, the intent of this first Paper is to convince the 2 Ministries that Sports Fishing is indeed worth promoting and that it is possible to engineer a world class sports fishery here in Singapore. Once those principals are established and accepted, then we can work the nuts and bolts of how to get it implemented. For considerations please. Best Regards

Suddenly.....I think I realised why the White Paper lacks the support of the S'pore Sport Council affilliated SFAS It may well be down to a wording : Sports Fishing ie. Sports Fishing Association Singapore They probably feel we are in competition to them, rather than in aid of them Perhaps the wording can be altered to Sports Flyfishing instead ? Besides, Sports Fishing in the form of Spinning is already allowed at most resevoirs - so lets perhaps just push for Sports Flyfishing instead and hopefully toward a dedicated flyfishing only fishery reservoir ( and ultimately with boats, of course - for senior ah peks like Billy and me la and others too ;D ) Thank you for your consideration

Ladies and Gentlemen,
Thank you for your support thus far on the Proposal.
As of today, we had managed to solicit the support of 53 signatories. This is still short of our target of 100 signatories for the Paper.
Thanks to Highlander's effort, another 5 copies of the paper had been distributed to different tackle shops on Beach Road for greater exposure. Hopefully, this will help to better achieve our target.
Also thanks to Qwek, our Proposal will be made known to various important conservation agencies in Singapore. Such exposures will be important and may even prove invaluable in the future.
Nevertheless, I feel that we need to surface the paper to the authorities soon in view of the newspaper front page report calling for contribution and participation from local comminities toward reservoirs and water resource conservation. we need to strike when the iron is hot.
Hence, I would like to set 25 July as the final date to send out the papers to the Ministers (MCYS & ME&WR) and associated agencies (PUB, N Parks, NEA & National Sports Council) so that it reaches their desks by 1 Aug. This will be regardless of how many signatories we would have by then.
I encourage all to create awareness of the Proposal with your fishing and conservation minded friends and associates.
Thank you once again and best regards.

To my Fellow Fishios...I have been visiting and reading the forum almost daily and although I have not been actively participating...I felt that i have to get out of hibernation and share a few words on this very important issue. Firstly i am deeply touch by the passion shown by everyone in the sport and the preparation of this White Paper. I believe this shows the change in trend in the needs of younger Singaporean. I must congratulate those involved in the preparation of the Paper which i felt is well written. I pray and hope that the relevant authorities will look into this paper positively. If this fails...I am sure that the team will try and try again. And if that stills fail...we can still continue to fellowship and have our weekly borak sessions over a cup of teh tarek in the land of OZ. Ahhh...I sure missed those sessions.

Hi all,
Thank you for the wonderful support for the paper.
We had solicited more than 100 signatories and created some awareness to further our desire. The paper had been sent out to the following :
Minister, Assoc Prof Yaacob Ibrahim Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources 40 Scotts Road Environment Building Singapore 228231
Minister, Dr Vivian Balakrishnan 512 Thomson Rd MCYS Building Singapore 298136
Let's wait till 1 Sep for feedback from these 2 Ministries. there will be paralla effort with N Parks and and other organizations in the mean time. I'll outline and solicit feedback on Phase 2 plans in a seperate posting on this forum.
I'll also like to highlight 2 special mentions : 1 Qwek's relentless effort to connect up with the right people at the right places 2 Highlander's effort to triple the number of signatories in under 2 weeks
Thanks!
