Today's (13 September 2005) The Straits Times, page H7. Cybergaming may gain acceptance as a SPORT. A new National Sports Association (NSA) may be set up to govern cybergaming. They also received support from the Singapore Sports Council to develop a physical and mental training regimen. "They will be prepared like other professional athlete, maximising their physical and mental well-being" There are several requirements an organisation must meet before it can achieve NSA status.
It must have support from at least three registered societies as affiliates, a long-term plan to promote and develop the sport, a Constitution that governs the association and a management team capable of meeting the association's objectives.Question: (With reference to the reply from authority and SSC.)If the hobby of cybergaming can be taken as a sport, why can't fly fishing as a hobby be taken as a sport too? Why is golf taken as a sport? Because our ministers played golf? This is the double standard we are getting from the Singapore Sports Council. Unlike the other hobbies, (which has high calibre people picking up the "sport" : fly fishing has not been picked up by any of our high calibre people yet. My personal thoughts all these years: 1. Will fly fishing get its rightful place in Singapore? 2. Will it require political intervention before we can see the light? 3. What did we do or did not do that is preventing the Singapore Sports Council from giving us our rightful place?

Quote: "But can cybergaming be considered a sport?"
A Singapore Sports Council spokeman thought so.
"A sport can be defined in many ways. Usually, the team is restricted to any game or contest.... requiring skill and some form of physical exertion."

Quote: "There is a lot of snyergy between video games and sports ... it was decided a sporting model would be best for competitive gaming to follow" He added that sports video games like Fifa 2005, a soccer game that will be played at the global World Cyber Games grand finals here in November, can act as an entry point into the actual sport.Comments:There are some fishing video games too. Do we need to play those fishing videos to get fly fishing into the SSC's "sports" defination? Or use these video games as entry points for fly fishing to be accepted as a sport? Singapore fly fishing - sipeh chum hor. When I was in Nicaragua in the 1980s, kids will hold onto my hand and say, "Parami no papa no mama." "For parvo .... peso" "Dollar dollar"I think fly fishing in Singapore also no papa no mama.

All NS personnels will be issued a mouse and a keyboard in future. He living a TRON world, get a life. If we need to be able to have a dialogue with SSC, I think we need to do so as a registered body. Cheers Qwek

Cheers Qwek[/quote] ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Another quote for your thoughts: "Cybergaming can be considered a sport in the broadest definition of the word"Sometimes I do really marvel at these people who could see the Emperor's new clothes while we the common fly fishermen can't. (Even with our expensive polariod sunglasses.)

Hi guys, Just my two cents worth... Some time ago, in one of my early posting, I mentioned that there must be a $ value to all these activities. Cybergaming is big as its draws in visitors and money to Singapore when an international tournament is held in Singapore as well as the publicity it generates. If we want to get to that level, we need well know celebrities associated with the sports to lead events that will generated income and publicity for this little red dot called Singapore. I'm just letting my imagination run wild... an international fly fishing tournament held in Singapore over a period of 3 day that would attract international participants with a purse of at least S$500,000.00! That would get their attention As Qwek has said "If we need to be able to have a dialogue with SSC, I think we need to do so as a registered body." They have no desire or intention to talk to a bunch of weekend flyfishos. Again, just my two cents worth. regards Alberto

That would be the real thing to aim for alberto.
But I just have this uncomfortable feeling in me after reading today's newspaper.
A past-time/hobby that physically require the "sportsman" to exert the index finger on clicking a mouse, and another two fingers or so tapping the key board can be classified as a sports by enthusiatic SSC officials, while fly fishing is not.
There must be something very wrong with fly fishing or with the SSC.
My senses say that there are more chances the error is not in fly fishing.
What do you guys think?
PS: You guys watched Mr Bean's morning exercise?

Hmm...Missed this interesting post Billy Well... I guess my earlier anger towards those SSC pencil pushers after their 'pass the buck' response to TY was justified ... But we've gotta watch our language cos I heard some fellows got sued for blogging defamatory stuff ... free speech? Anyway, how's the 'recruitment' to adopt a reservoir by TY going? Looks like we need a 'picnic' bad Qwek ;D Thanks for bringing this up Cheers CY

I will delete their posts and ban them before they get into trouble with the law. ;D You know CY. Sometimes I really wish I could be like them, so that I can also see the Emperor's new clothes. If emperor say exerting physical effort like clicking a mouse is a sport, it is a sport. And everybody say it is a sport.

Hi folks,
I think we are a bit off line here, we should wait for TY dialogue with MCDS to go thru. SSC, will probably need to go back to MCDS if it approach directly.
Yes CK, we need to organise another picnic. Will post the announcement in the picnic thread.
Cheers Qwek

So to each his own and hoping we can support each other when meeting PUB/SSC .. despite the bad blood Thanks for organising the Picnic Qwek ... I'll pay up at Coho as usual Cheers CY

You are right CY, that was uncalled for. Despite the dead woods floating around, they do have a Few Good Men, they are the ones that actually keep it running. They do not deserved the mud slinging, my apologies to those offended by my remarks.

Many many years ago, when I was still a very young punk, the Art scene was just as bad.
One artist went on stage, urine into a cup and then drank his own urine.
I was shocked by how the "artist" of this calibre was even allowed to get on the stage to do his "Art", while the other real Artist were not given the chance to perform. Why? Because the urine drinker was calling the shots. But the Arts had moved on and weeded out by itself the undesirables. Look at the 2 durians we have now.
Fly fishing is meeting the urine drinkers these days. While the real fly fishermen and those who really cared for the environment is denied the chance to speak or perform their "Art", the urine drinkers are calling the shots.
In the years to come, these undesirables will be weeded out by society and by their peers.
There won't be any more urine drinkers left to tell the emperor that his new clothes are beautiful, because the emperor will know it himself if his clothes are beautiful and tell the urine drinkers to go drink their urine elsewhere.
