I've been to Singapore twice. It's a very nice city. Too bad I have not hooked up with you guys sooner ^^
Last time I was in Singapore was 2 yrs ago. Looking for a fishing venture was unsuccessful. Then I even went to the Bintan, no fishing either...
When I visit Singapore next time, i surely will meet some expert there
Eric, are you in Cambridge now? when will you be back? This sat i'll hook up with HK lure fisher for sneak head... see if you are interested..

hi nutter,
glad to welcome you to HK. I live on the HK side. but hk is very convenient to move about - compact & a very efficient public transport. living on the kowloon side gives you the advantage of getting to the fishing sites alot quicker.
usually a 4wt rod is sufficinet for freshwater fishing. hk has no 'rivers', as most has been converted to nullahs. these used to be very polluted, but the highways & environment department has cleaned them up & you could actually fish in them (be careful of flash-flood between May to October. They are often stocked with huge tilapia, hk's version of the barra (qing-lo), and catfish.
at the river /nullat mouth as it empties into the sea, you have have to use a 6-7 wt as the barras there are quite sizeable (2-6 kg).
then of cause if you are going for the GTs & bigger barras you may need a 7-8wt.
as most of the species that go after the fly in hk are predator, i often use a intermediate-sink line or a float line witha sink-tip.
when you arrive to hk, call me, my mphone is 91607378, and email address azlan123@netvigator.com
cheers bro eric

see you then bro,
remember to call and we'll wet lines together. there are some good paid-pond here, and the whole family can be involved as there are kiddy-tanks where kids could actually see & fish huge tilapias & carps.
call me. I teach at HKU and my time is a little hectic now, but will be most happy to hear from you.
cheers bro eric

hi kfd I'm now in hk, but will be leaving for cambridge at the end of this month. will be back June 1st.
I've booked several fishing trip with gillies (fishing guides) in wales, ireland & scotland on the 4 weekends i'm in england.
as cambridge also has a fishing club, i'll be joining them on their events. they are very generous, as some of their retired members have offered to take me fishing with them during the weekdays in the morning.
will go snakehead fishing with you when i return.
cheers bro eric

hi Qwek,
thanks bro. deeply appreciate your help and the contact. If you are in Uk during may let me know, as I'm renting a flat at Cambridge, with enough room for visitors.
I'm hoping to visit S'pore again soon - nothing, thus far, in HK could beat the PBs in Spore.
I've just been appointed master of st john's col. hku. hope this does not put a dent in my fishing, but the days after Christmas seems a perfect time. perhaps then I could join you guys at razak's place & the legendary doc edwards.
my casting is much better, more accurate & respectable distance (10-15 metres is frequent on a 5 wt, 20 meters is achieved with concentration on a 6wt line). but sometimes with lack of concentration & the temptation to get it quickly to where the fish has just risen, ends up in a great big heap to nowhere.
as for the pb fries at aberdeen - could no longer find them at their usual spot. hope the tomans there did not make a meal of them. but temptation being the order of the day, am really tempted to seed the place. pb fries are quite popular aquarium fishes in hk.
we are finding more and more spore&malaysian expats in hk enjoying flyfishing. thanks for letting us use this forum to communicate & share, not only between ourselves, but also with fellow flyers in spore.
cheers bro
looking forward to your UK contact
eric

hi X, looks like you are enjoying yourself. to many 'bait-casters', the green-grouper is 'small' & the 'lai-mang' really 'mini', and proves fly-fishing is 'for the birds'. my reply to them is 'to each his own. we don't have to pull monsters from the sea to enjoy fishing'. and this is not sour grapes! big or small, flyfishing is good fishing! Good show bro. the mangrove flats at SaiKung & NT East off Yuen Long & Tin Shui Wai for mangrove jacks & perch, and the oyster beds at Lau Fau Shan for bass, are worth exploring. we must get together with kfd & others when I reurn from UK in June.
cheers bro eric

hi jacky, how was the fishing on Saturday. hope you did not get washed out by the typhoon. I asked around for a gar location, and was told that a good place is the levee next to the Discovery Bay boat-club. The levee is in an L-shape, fish along the outside (fish inside and the keeper would be sending greetings to your ancestors!) At the corner of the L towards the right of the long-side of the arm, you will see some submerged turbulence (ie. reef), this spot & along the arms, I am told is a good place for gar, snake-mackerel & smaller GTS (1-3 kilos). Best time is 6.30am-9.30am, & only at rising tide (3-4 days before the 1st & 15th of the lunar month). You can take the earliest ferry to Discovery Bay from Central (5.30am?), then hope onto the bus at Discovery Bay for the Mariner (ask the driver), get off, walk towards the sea, you will see a gate on your left, climb over/under it, then proceed along the shore & you will come to the levee. Good fishing bro, eric

Hi Eric,
I meant the aligator gars. Those freshwater monster in Florida. One of my frds caught a gar that is around 100cm.
Btw, there is no fishing in Discovery Bay. Those resident will call cops when they see you. Better not try. Good fishing there thou..
