Hi Nutter,
i've just built my st croix wt 4 9ft... but there are places you may want a shorter rod...
send me an email ja_ki3@hotmail.com when you are here as I will check my email everyday. I am now trying to organize fly fishing gathering at least once every one or two months. We are still figuring out types of flies should be used...
btw, we have some fly fishing accesiores in HK.. if you are interested.. it's an online store..
cheers,

hi nutter settled down in HK yet?
have been too busy myself after becoming master of st john's college, hku... building renovations, interviews & appointments of academic tutors...etc. some regrets for accepting the new post. but can only blame it on mid-50s last hurrah before retirement at 65.
only able to take up the flyrod again last sunday, went to the tai mei tok paypondto get the rust out of the system. wonderful day & several bites but no takes. felt excellent to cast & feel again.
perhaps we could go wet some lines sometime.
cheers bro

hi Qwek
thanks. sorry for taking so long with the reply - became the 'master' and hit the ground running with repairs, maintenance, and finance. and just before admissions, have some time now to fish and get back intouch with the forum again.
went fishing last weekend - did the rounds at the various reservoirs - and hooked up on some good fish. in particular PBs and Large Mourh Bass (known locally as 'california' bass) at Sheng Mun Reservoir in the New Territories, and at Aberdeen Reservoir on HK Island.
yes the PBs survived in aberdeen and have grown to quite decent sizes. caught 2 and released - about 1/2 kilo possibly. dry fly used were size 10 parachute crickets and hoppers on 2 kilo tippet and 3wt floating line.
went to the paid pond at plover cove, hooked up on a huge catfish, with a size 10 parachute caddis on a 2 kilo tippet and 3 wt floating line, as it was sinking. but could not land it as the tippet broke.
may be coming to singapore and malaysia in june or july. hope to see you guys then. miss the ad hoc discussions at coho.
cheers bro eric

WOW, Well done on the PB's. Were the PB's in the first ress or the second largest one. I have fished both before but they are hard to fish with fly. You can send me an email if you dont want the world wide web to know
scott_john_anderson@hotmail.com
We have been catch a few Sea Bass but only on lures. They will not open up and eat a fly. They are really making me mad, but still heaps of fun

hi nutter
great to hear from you again.
the sheng mun reservoir is horribly busy on weekends spooking the fish into deeper waters. one good spot is the inlet from the upper reservoir. but overhead casting is almost impossible because of trees and almost immediate group of onlookers making silly comments about you having to be in the water to flyfish because TV programme alwaays like that.
at abeerdeen, again the inlet into the lower reservoir from the upper pool. its about 1 kilometer from the dam in a small bay. you will not mistake it because its a lovely spot. and you will see alot of surface feeding activities.
if weather permit, i'll be at the aberdeen reservoir tomorrow at about 8am. call me 91606378
cheers bro.
and a note to anyone in HK looking at this note. i am sharing this information so that you will have a PB experience. But more so to encourage you to "CATCH AND RELEASE!" so that you can FISH ANOTHER DAY!!!!!
further please use barbless hooks, a number 10 - 12 hook, fly to use is a parachute cricket or parachute hopper, preferable white or creamy white. red tends to spook these guys.
cheers

hi guys.
long time missing from forum. had a bad fall last fishing trip in the hills of NT. scrapped my shin on a water pipe. wound on shin turned septic.
just to remind all flyers - if you fall and SUSTAINED scrap woundS, even if you have cleaned it on the spot with anticeptic fluid, go to the A&E to have it treated immediately!
my keenest to keep fishing resulted in having to have a minor operation to remove septic necrotic flesh without anesthetic, 3 tetanous shots, and daily wound cleaning at the Uni clinic - end result: 4 WASTED WEEKS DURING THIS PEAK SEASON!
CHEERS ERIC

Hi bro,
Sorry to hear about your misadventure, do take care. I had a bad scrap a couple of years back when the wooden walkway gave way and my leg got struck bad. Luckily for me I have a bunch of nurses to look after me where I work. ;D
Hope you are getting better before the season is over.
Cheers

Eric,
Sorry to hear your misfortune and glad you are doing better now.
How long do you have to walk to your spots? good to know PB's made it thru winters. we really should gather up for some fishing.

hi qwek, alberto, brothers and gals in the Lion City, greetings. finally all papers marked and 2 ph.d dissertations examined , my summer vacation and fishing can begin! ;D getting really mouldy. has been raining sheets in hk. looks like hk tropic weather is turning s'pore equitorial . now that the reservoirs are 'no fishing' until september , some of us lesser folks are back at the paid-ponds to try to savle the itch to begin the summer's fishing . today was quite good, got the first fish, a 1/2 kilo (?) tilapia (picture to follow when my pals email it to me. lucky someone remembered the camera) before being hit by the summer thunderstorm.... again! . this first fish was taken with a 3wt cortland rod, and 3wt cabela prestige reel, 2lb tippet and a #8 orange parachute grasshopper. the tilapia almost shot out of the water diving into the fly. what a way to begin summer! ;D hey guys am coming back to s'pore from july 2-10th. accompanying my HKU contigent for the TIG games at S'pore Nat. Uni. will be staying at Orchard Hotel (away from the crowd, but convenient). hope to wet lines with you guys! my mobile 91606378. any of you want anything from HK (ie. legal that is)? see you all cheers eric
